My daughter submitted her EA through the Common App last Wed. 10/29 . It has now been a week and she has not received an email confirmation from admissions. Should we be concerned and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

@Fall57 My D never received an email, but when she goes to her UChicago account on the website it says that they have received her common ap.

@uchicago will the extension of the EA deadline mean that applicant results will come out later? And when does Chicago generally send out EA acceptances anyways? Because I was under the impression that decisions would come out 12/15, but now I’m a little confused. thank you so much!

A little concerned here about the implications of the EA deadline 11/15… My original plan was to wait for UChicago’s decision to come out around 12/15 and work on my other essays. If I get in, I might work on maybe 3 more essays for RD round, but if I don’t I’d have to work on maybe 8 more essays. UChicago is currently keeping mum about whether they are going to stick with their usual EA decision or not. If the decision date is pushed back, I’d have to work on some the essays NOW (which means I have less time to attend to my 6 APs…)

I wished UChicago could’ve thought this through a little better…

@uchicago how import is the interview? If the student is not good at interview, should he still request it? Is any impact on his application if he doesn’t request interview or not doing good at interview?

@uchicago how to inform admission office the new awards after submit EA application last week.

@presque we have not yet set our decision release date yet, but expect the extended deadline will not affect our ability to release admissions decisions on a similar timeline as last year. In the past several years we have released decisions around the third week of December.

@nan71979, see above!

@collegepart the admissions interview is a useful but by no means required portion of our admissions process. It is meant to be a casual conversation and in most cases is a positive reflection of the applicant. We do not require nor can we accommodate everyone who wants to have an interview, and admit many students every year who have either not requested or not been accommodated with an interview. Also, you may upload additional information, such as these awards, to your UChicago account in the “Supplemental Material” section.

@UChicago Hello! I created an U Chicago account about a month ago, but just submitted my EA application a few days back. However, there’s no information on my U Chicago account about my application–can I tell if the two accounts are linked? Does it matter? Thanks so much!

@uchicago Could I discuss a favorite hobby for the optional essay?

@UChicago If my son submitted his application on time for the Nov. 1 deadline, can he now go back and make a few edits to his essay, and resubmit by the delayed deadline? How would he do this?

@volume you are welcome to discuss anything you like in the optional essay, hobbies included. I have read and enjoyed essays from students ranging from their favorite music to webcomics to an essay about the snack food “Funyuns” to a passion for bowling. Whatever you like is what we’d love to hear about!

@Fall57 we do not send students an email confirming receipt directly, but their UChicago Account should reflect their submitted Common or Universal Application about a day after submission. Note that not all materials will be reflected there-- it does take us some time to process other material once it has been received.

@dadof3boys3, it is not possible for students to make updates to essays once they have been submitted. However, if he feels these edits are significant, he may upload a new version in his UChicago Account, which we will note alongside his existing response. This is usually not necessary to do-- I am sure his previously submitted essays will be just fine.

@UChicago Thank you for the quick response. My son is a perfectionist, so he started worrying about his essay as soon as he sent it off, but the changes he would make are very minor. If anything, the closure will be a relief for him. Now all we have to do is keep our fingers crossed for the next six weeks.

@uchicago how to prepare the interview? Will the school alumni look at student whole application before interview? should we bring the resume? Thanks

@collegepart, the alumni interviewers do not review students’ applications before your interview. It is not necessary to bring a resume. Generally, these are a reasonably informal conversation meant to assess your fit for UChicago, and your interviewer is likely to ask you questions about books you like, favorite subjects in school, etc rather than standard job-interview questions.

@UChicago When will UChicago start contacting students for missing documents? Will it be this week, or next week? Ever since I submitted my application, I haven’t received a single email from UChicago and I’m worried if the email about missing documents would reach me (if I happen to have materials missing). Thanks.

Oh and @UChicago I actually have another question: I’m kind of confused about how to use my uchicago account. I expect there will be a checklist where I can check which items (test scores, recs etc) have been received. But I don’t seem to find one on my account. Only the “Upload” section displays that the application and supplement have been received. Is there a problem with my account or is the feature not available yet?

Haha Grace I think you can ignore my previous two questions now
I received email about application status from UChicago today and checked my account and saw everything listed on there :)

@UChicago The application status says the transcript was received on 5/2/14, but I’m sure that is the one from a summer program that my daughter applied to last year. Her high school sent her official senior year transcript on 10/17/14, but this is not showing up in her status. Advice please.

Hi! If we applied EA and plan to apply for aid from UChicago, are the W2 forms, financial aid worksheet, and 2013 tax returns all due Wednesday, November 26th (the deadline for “missing materials” from the application?)

Hi Uchicago,

I forgot to self report my AP scores on my common app. I have two 5’s and two 4’s. Should I send you official score reports through email then?

Thanks,
