@UChicago I’m a bit confused about the UChicago Account. I’m submitting an arts supplement and I uploaded my portfolio to the account. I just submitted my common app (I’m applying RD but submitting early). Can I keep editing the materials in my Uchicago Account? It says that they have been “received” but I am still making some changes… Is there a way to officially submit my materials once I’m done? Thank you!

@annwank don’t worry! If the high school has sent it, I’m sure the official transcript is on it’s way. If we see that it’s missing, we’ll be sure to reach out.

@michaelt0101 yes- though if you encounter any difficulty and need an extra day or two, don’t sweat it.

@Sorool yes, if you email your score reports to collegeadmisisons@uchicago.edu, we’d be happy to add them to your application as self-reported scores.

@theofficefan you will be able to edit the “details” about what you’ve submitted (for example the title of a work of visual art), but you won’t be able to edit the content (say, the words of a poem you’ve submitted). However, you can always replace what you’ve submitted with an updated version. We’ll treat whatever you’ve added to your account as an official submission.

@UChicago…why the slight confusion in extension of EA deadline. Commonapp and some of your admission staff claim the extension is for everyone BUT most of your announcements say only for who are applying for aid ? What is correct status…

I had sent out Early action application. I still have some update and award missed. when I load my update award to Uchicgo accout, I choosed the ‘other’ drop down box. Is it ok?

@hcpl2000, while we hope students not applying for aid would have been able to complete their applications by our November 1 deadline, we did not restrict those students’ ability to apply by our extended deadline for financial aid applicants.

@collegepart yes, this is ok.

Thank you UChicago…my son was waiting for his high school to send reports and recommendations which they had delayed. He submitted with the new opportunity and as the documents reached before the new deadline by FedEx !

Hi Grace,

My son applied on November 12th via Common Application but he has not received an email back from U Chicago asking him to create a U Chicago account so that he can check the status of his application. Please advise.

Hi Grace, does my need for financial aid significantly affect the admissions decision as an international student? In other words, is there a chance of getting rejected because of financial need whereas I could be have been admitted if it wasn’t the financial need? Thank you!(:

Is the one- to two-page writing supplement double spaced or…?

Hey Grace!

I was wondering if it would be okay to submit a supplementary resume through the UChicago account portal. Thanks!

@tintintoo, please have your son email us including his name, birthdate, and this issue to collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu and we can make sure he gets his account established.

@hayonaise, we do have to be need-aware when making admissions decisions for international students, which can cause our international aid process to be more competitive than our regular international admissions process. However, we do admit and fund a number of international students with need every year-- so, while the process is selective, we still hope that interested international students who will need aid will complete an aid application in addition to applying for admission.

@binatang, we do not have a preference-- the essay can be single or double spaced. I suggest making sure that your essay is no longer than two pages single spaced.

@yellowboy, yes, submitting a resume through your UChicago account is allowed.

@UChicago For international students asking for financial aid; do you consider first the application or student needing aid? First their application is reviewed then they are given aid?

Hey Grace, if I have an award that I got recently and I want to update the admissions office, should I email my regional admissions counselor or make updates in my UChicago account? I read the website and it says that there is an “Update Your Application” link in the account. But I don’t seem to find it anywhere.

@UChicago Will one spelling error kill my entire application. Should i upload a correction?

Hi @UChicago

I recently met with a representative from UofC at my high school and she talked briefly about a new major in molecular engineering. From the cursory reading I’ve done on the school website, I was only able to find Mol. Eng. listed as a minor. Is there a plan for it to become a full fledged major anytime soon?

I hope you had a great thanksgiving!
Thanks in advance.

@ajayroxx, we review the applications of all international students seeking aid before we determine which students will receive international aid.

@magicwandyy, you may note this in a Word document and upload the document to the “Supplemental Materials” section of your account.

@Kigzcorp, no, no need to worry about this.

@ivybound24, you are correct in noting that this is currently offered as a minor; the College is working to expand it in to a fully-fledged major which we expect will be announced in the coming year.

Hi UChicago, its seems pretty commonplace for EA decisions to be released between Dec 10-20. Will the extension of the EA deadline and the huge number of EA applicants (one alum said 11,000?) push the decision date back?

@Southpaw45, we have been able to accommodate our decision extension and still plan to release admissions decisions around the third week of December, certainly before Christmas. We do not have a date set yet but we will communicate the date to applicants in advance when we are set on a date.

Hello Grace @UChicago ,
I submitted my Common Application a little over a week ago but I have not turned in my writing supplements, so my application is not completed. But since then, I made major changes to my Common Application (including the essay) and found errors that I didn’t catch before when I went over it. Since my application is not completed and there is still about a month left until the regular decision deadline, is there anything I can do to change my Common App? I know that before I submitted the Common App, I signed it stating that I was satisfied with it. I readily admit the huge mistake I made and take responsibility for it. When I looked on the Common App FAQ, they said they cannot make any changes to submitted applications and that I would have to contact the school to find out how to proceed. If I contact the admissions office, will they be able to reset/delete my application or somehow let me make changes to it? If so, will it affect my chances of admission?
Thank you for your help, this problem has been worrying me and I’m grateful that you started this thread.

@discombobulatez, we are not able to make changes to the common application, but do have a way for students to make additions to their UChicago-specific supplement. You can contact us at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu if you would like to do this.
