@UChicago thanks for answering my question - sorry but i just have one more! do i need to send score reports from the SAT as well as the ACT if i’ve taken both?
@UChicago I caught a few errors (a couple minor, one or two moderate/significant) on my UChicago supplement. Would it be too late now to go back and resubmit through my UChicago account?
@UChicago Neither I nor anyone I know has gotten an email confirming receipt of the application… Are those going to go out? And how are we supposed to request interviews…?
@andros12 the deadline to request an interview was a few weeks ago. I missed it too.
@GreyGarvin If you interview in late January or early February, we would indeed be able to consider your interview as part of your application.
@ibbi1824 Up to you! It can’t hurt to send both, but we only require one.
@chanelli300 Feel free to add a note to your UChicago Account explaining the corrections, or, if you’d prefer, to simply add an updated version as an additional essay.
@andros12 Hold tight! We haven’t sent confirmation emails, so don’t worry if you applied but have not yet received one. Unfortunately, the deadline for requesting an alumni interview has indeed passed. If you’d like, you can email your regional admissions counselor to express your interest in case an interview opportunity opens up in your area.
Hi,
This is a slightly different question, but I wanted the input from a college admissions view. Recently I just qualified for the Tournament of Champions in debate and have done fairly well. The problem is that I also play tennis in the spring. I essentially have to choose between doing debate for the spring where major tournaments such as States, TOCs, and Nationals are versus doing high school varsity tennis. I am really conflicted on what I should do and wanted the view of a college admissions officer is better, possibly doing well at prestigious tournaments in debate or doing varsity tennis? College admissions will definitely not be the only aspect of my decision and the part that makes this decision so conflicting is that I truly do like each equally. So from a college admissions point of view, which is better? I understand that this is a question that is very specific to me, I just am currently trying to get as much input as possible from as any people. Thank you.
@UChicago Thanks! Just one more question:
Three of my academic teachers inadvertently uploaded their recommendations to Common App when I only intended to submit two. The letters aren’t the issue: I trust that they’re all great, but I’d rather not make the admissions committee have to read a third (and possibly slightly redundant) teacher recommendation.
Anything I can/should do about this? Would submitting a note through my UChicago account telling them to ‘dismiss’ one of the recommendations, or place the greatest emphasis on the two I intended to submit, help things out? My application is pretty lengthy as is, I’m just worried that even more material could dilute the rest of it.
@thebossofbosses this is for you to decide! Either is fine. Pursue things you are interested in and do not let “what is best” for college admissions worry you in the slightest when making choices about activities you find personally fulfilling. There is no magic formula for admission to any college that could involve one of these choices being better or worse for you, and the choice between tennis or debate should solely fall on which activity you prefer to develop further for your personal enrichment.
@chanelli300 there’s really no need to worry about this; many students submit three recommendations and it is perfectly within our ability to consider all of them. If it’s redundant, we’ll just read through it quickly and move on
hi grace, will UChicago be hosting more receptions throughout the winter for early admits? Also, I know all admits are considered for merit aid. My kid just learned he’s been accepted for a 2nd year to a cancer research lab–would it help to send an update on this to the powers that be? Last, he’s signed up for the February visit–is it essentially the same as the April visit? Thanks in advance.
@zzzmmm Your son can view a list of all admitted student receptions by logging in through his UChicago Account. He should certainly feel free to send an update his regional admissions counselor, if he’d like! The February overnights are indeed similar in structure to those in April.
hi @UChicago ! I didn’t realize that the optional essay was…well…an actual essay, so I ended up just listing a few of my favorite things. At this point in the game would it be helpful to submit a brief half-page ‘actual’ essay to my UChicago account, or perhaps just a couple more things that are more reflective of my personality?
Thanks…kinda freaking out a bit
@laundrybasket I know quite a few people submitted a list. They receive everything from a list to a few sentences to a full-blown essay. Don’t worry!
@laundrybasket Agree with poster above. My D was accepted with a list.
thanks guys although its a bit dry rn so i was thinking about adding a few things to make it a bit more personal/creative
@UChicago sorry, perhaps I didn’t frame the question correctly. I also submitted a supplemental letter thinking that I would only submit two teacher recs. but since I accidentally submitted three I now have four recs total. I know the website limits me to one supplemental submission (not sure if this covers teachers as well), so would this be a cause for concern?
Sorry for the confusion or if this seems a little petty. And thanks so much for your time.
@UChicago can you answer me another question? I am applying for financial aid. In the ISFAA I listed my family’s income and saving, and I have sent the Income Statement. Do I also have to provide the Bank Statement of my family’s account too? Thanks!
@chanelli300 really, don’t worry, it’s fine!
@laundrybasket, a list is also fine.
Theme of today’s responses from me: don’t worry, it’s fine!
@dokisame, we do not need financial information beyond what is requested on the ISFAA unless you are admitted and decide to attend. If this becomes the case, we will give you specific instructions for what, how, and when to submit this information.
@Uchicago Hey could you answer one small question. When do deferred students start receiving notices of likely letters or acceptances/rejections? Will it be with the regular decision applicants? Also, do you know the exact number of kids who were deferred, because from my understanding most of the kids who I know that applied were deferred. Thanks.
Grace, My son requested for an interview through his U Chicago account back in late November (he applied RD in mid November). He has not heard back as yet. Are you still scheduling interviews in February? Thanks
