@sgballsta We’ll be releasing Regular Decision admissions decisions–including decisions for students who were deferred in Early Action-- mid-March. I don’t have an exact figure for the number of early applicants who were deferred, but you should know that we only defer applications that will be competitive when we reevaluate them in the Regular Decision round.
@TinTintoo Unfortunately, if he hasn’t been contacted for an interview at this point, that means that our alumni interviewers were not able to fulfill all of the interview requests in your area. Don’t worry though! The interview is a totally optional part of the application, and most of the students we admit will not have interviewed.
@UChicago Hi, I was in the process of reporting my AP scores. Can a bad score harm my chances of admissions? The first test I took (AB Calculus) resulted in a failing score. However, I’ve taken 6 more up until this point averaging a 4.6, and I’m taking BC Calculus to help improve the AB subscore. I just wanted to know the influence of AP scores on admission. Thanks!
@UChicago My D was deferred from EA to RD. How can I upload 2014 Tax Return information? I had a change in tax status from 2013 to 2014 going from married joint return to a single return (divorced). The upload is only asking for 2013 information which is actually useless. Thanks.
@Kraska77, AP scores are on a self-report basis on our application. You do not need to report your AP scores if you do not feel they are strongly reflective of your ability.
@comptechmom, the College Aid office can assist you with this-- feel free to contact them at college-aid@uchicago.edu or by phone at 773-702-8655.
Hi UChicago! UChicago is my top choice, the only thing I worry about is how close it is for me. Do native Chicagoans (more so Hyde Park natives) find that UChicago is an entirely different experience when coming in freshman year?
Hi there! When I originally applied RD, I noted that I did not require financial aid. However, due to some changes, I would like to change that status and apply for FA. If I upload all the FA documents onto my account, do I still need to call your school to change my FA status?
@UChicago
Hello! I have sent an email to my regional counselor a few weeks ago in January, reaffirming my interest in admission, but have not received yet any confirmation from UChicago. Is this normal? How can I know for sure that my email is received? I’m just a little worried.
Thank you for your assistance!
I am an international student applying RD. I have just spoken with my counselor and she told me that she erroneously submitted my school report with a GPA of 3.48 when in fact it’s a 3.91. Is there any chance of changing it back? Should I ask her to mail the corrected GPA to you? Please advice us on how to proceed. Everybody’s input is welcome as well.
InfinityMan, I suppose UChicago will respond soon, but my answer is of course they will correct the score. I hope your counselor or you or both of you are not waiting for the answer from this forum to make contact with admissions!
@m4xw3ll, we do have a lot of Chicagoans on campus and I think it is a new and unique experience for them! You’ll be navigating Chicago from a new perspective as a college student, and it can actually be pretty fun to be the “person in the know” in your house about neighborhoods that are not downtown. Hyde Park is a little sleepier and more academic than most neighborhoods elsewhere in the city, which can be a neat change especially if you’ve lived on the North or West sides. (Plus, the ability to go home for holidays or a long weekend without a flight can be a big bonus). I’m of course speaking from my perspective as a self-proclaimed rather than actual Chicagoan (I’ve lived here for a long time now but grew up in Washington)-- if you’d like to talk to a current student about their perspective, email your question to psac@uchicago.edu.
@pmmywest, go ahead and email us at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu to note this as we’ll then be able to activate the UChicago Financial Aid worksheet in your account. You’re welcome to apply for aid at any time-- you just won’t have access to the worksheet in your account unless we flip a switch on your app noting you plan to apply for aid, but we can do this easily!
@alchemist7010, rest assured that your note has been read and included with your application. Because of the volume of email we receive during this time of year we’re not always able to provide a personal response to each letter or email, but we definitely read and include everything that is sent our way.
@InfinityMan we can easily correct this with a note from your counselor. If you’ve already emailed us, great! If not, your counselor can email collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu with the updated information.
@UChicago Really? I was able to access and submit the Financial Aid worksheet in my account after submitting my parents’ tax forms. IT showed up in my account right after. Should I still send an email to you guys?
@UChicago Can you please tell me if you still do interview in my region, which is Vietnam? I have not received any email from UChicago for awhile, and the silence baffled me.
Besides, have you finished reading applications? Well, it’s just curiosity, again Thanks
@UChicago, my DD just received National Merit Finalist notification letter a couple of days ago with UChicago as her first choice of school. She wants to upload it thru UChicago portal, but the deferral letter from your school stated that additional materials must be received by January 31, 2015. Can she still submit it to strengthen her application packet or is it too late now?
I.beg your pardon if I am too blunt here. But, honestly, does a 27 ACT international applicant, really stand a chance? Does the committee even “ACTUALLY” get to look beyond standardized scores with the immense volume of applications that it evaluates?
@dokisame we have finished our alumni interview process and were not able to accommodate all students interested in an interview. We do not require interviews for admission, and are still in the process of reviewing applications; students should expect to hear decisions from us in mid-March.
@PtrYoon the best method for this at this point would be for her to email the notification and update to her regional admissions counselor.
@TheArchangel while I can’t comment on any student’s likelihood of acceptance given scores, please be assured that yes, we review in full every application that we receive and do not have any automatic cutoffs for grades/test scores.
