UChicago Questions? Ask an admissions counselor!

@UChicago thanks for the information :smiley: I have another question, since I’ve read the “Likely letters” thread: Who are you sending likely letters to? The strongest applicants, or the applicants whom you will have to compete with other schools to get, or the one who fits your school the best? :smiley:

@dokisame We send advance notification of the likelihood of admission to a very small number of exceptional candidates in our Regular Decision round. The majority of our RD admitted students will not receive this notice and should expect to hear their admissions decision in mid-March.

Hi @uchicago I flew up to Chicago last Friday (a cheap flight…I guess nobody wants to fly there when the high is two above zero) and toured the campus and went through an interview…everyone thought i was nuts for going up there when it was that cold but there were actually about 50 kids on the tour…so we were crazy together. And i really really wanted an interview.

Anyway, thanks for the great day!

P.s. (because somebody asked me about this in another thread), “Grey Garvin” is not my real name…although it is a cool name…it is a character in a “novel” that my little brother wrote when he was in 5th grade.

So i am not sucking up by writing this note to the admissions counselor. i truly did have a great day.

@GreyGarvin this is great to hear! Glad you had such a great visit despite our cold weather.

I completed the CSS Profile back in January but it still says that I haven’t completed the Financial Aid Worksheet. Do I need to email you guys to let you know I’m doing the CSS Profile instead of the UChicago Worksheet?

@Uchicago Decisions are going to be released online, right? Are we going to get an email prompting us to go check our portal so we can view our status there or are we going to receive an email with our final admission decision?

@UChicago‌ I have been told that decisions are going to be released on March 14 (pi day :smiley: ) Is that accurate?

@westc0ast Shoot your regional admissions counselor a quick email so they can look into what’s going on!

@hallowdreams Admissions decisions will be posted in students’ UChicago accounts. You’ll receive an email notifying you when your admissions decision is ready to be viewed in your account.

@uclabound1 We have not yet announced when we’ll release admissions decisions, but it will be mid-March.

@UChicago Thanks! I’m a National Achievement Scholarship recipient and named UChicago as my top school. Are there any benefits at UChicago that come with this scholarship? I know national merit finalists get extra money on an annual basis.

@uclabound1, yes! National Achievement finalists and students who are finalists in the National Hispanic Scholarship Program receive the same benefit as National Merit finalists, which is a guaranteed award of $4,000/yr.

@UChicago Thank you.

@UChicago‌ will you let us know soon? or tomorrow about when decisions will be coming out? Just want to be able to know, and hoping it’s soon!

@andros12 Decision date has already been announced! It’s Friday March 13, 2015. Only 8 days left!

@uclabound1 thanks! Jeez, that’s so close…

My son recently had an article published in a national magazine and scored the leading role in the school play. Does admissions care about these little accomplishments? It’s not Broadway, nor was the article an argument presented before the Supreme Court. It’s a school play and the article relates to his hobby. Thank you.

@shoshonte at this point we would not be able to factor these new developments in to your son’s admissions decision, but they still sound like cool opportunities for him!

Hi Grace,

Does being denied an off-campus alumni interview put the applicant at any disadvantage? Just curious to know.

@sharma123, no. We do not have the ability to accommodate every student who requests one with an alumni interview in most areas of the world. Not receiving an interview is not a reflection on a student’s likelihood of admission and we admit many students every year who have not had an interview.

Grace,

When tomorrow will admission decisions be posted? Are you able to give anything more specific than the “late afternoon” on the UChicago admissions website?
