@Ferality We do not require the non-custodial parent for any part of our financial aid worksheet.
@nycgirl You do not need to fill out that field if you have no other family members in college.
@collegeapplying At this point, we cannot confirm the receipt of materials at this point. Sometime in the next couple weeks, we will e-mail you to let you know that credential checking is open. Once it is, if we are missing any materials, you can resubmit them without any penalty! However, if you have managed to upload materials to the portfolio, it is most likely we have received them.
@aych1686 We ask that recommendations come from a teacher or someone who has known you in a professional capacity outside of the classroom (coach, club sponsor, mentor etc.).
@genius231 It is not required. If you are applying early action, you can have your counselor send it to your regional admissions counselor. There will be no penalty for late submission.
@waddups The link is perfectly fine! But, you can also feel free to submit it in the supplemental writing section (through Upload Materials) of your UChicago Account.
Hi UChicago. I haven’t received my application portal information, and it has been a 8 days since I submitted my EA application (I already have a UChicago account).
Is this expected, or should I be sending an email to inquire about it?
@UChicago I submitted my Common App and supplements on Nov 1, but when I go to the application status page it says they were received on Nov 2. Does this mean I missed the Early Action deadline?
@UChicago I felt like I had heard in a webcast somewhere that UChicago would be willing to take “anything you send us” for supplements. Would that include stuff like Web-Apps :D? I just submitted a video/few documents on my Web App via “Other” in the supplement portal thing. Was that a bad idea :O…? I wouldn’t want to burden y’all with even more materials! I was just so excited that I decided to submit the stuff, haha.
@UChicago Since my parents did not file taxes in 2014 (they don’t file taxes at all), I have to fill out the “2014 Parent Non-Tax Filing Statement.” On the form it asks for the Students ID Number? What is that number? Would that be the reference number listed on my Prospective Student UChicago account, or are they asking me for my ID from school, or is it something else? Thanks!
@UChicago UChicago was one of the four schools I selected for my September 2015 ACT to be sent to automatically, so I was wondering if the school would have gotten it by now? It says on my UChicago account that the official test scores were received on 7/2/15, and I am afraid that is from my June ACT. Thanks!
@UChicago I applied EA last month and when I check my application status it shows everything has been received except for a transcript from my school showing my dates attended. I have turned in my high school transcript and the portal has received it, but my counselors and I are questioning the need to submit another separate transcript. Can you please clarify what the required document is? Thanks!
UChicago, can you explain just a little about how EA applicants are evaluated (deferred vs. accepted)? Are the criteria for admission as an EA applicant slightly higher than during the RD review?
@UChicago What is your exact policy/definition of 1st generation students? My parents only received associate’s degrees from small colleges out of the country, would I be classified under 1st generation?
@PHLe98 Your materials are in on time for early action!
@Newdle That can include Web-Apps. Submitting under the other section works perfectly fine for us! As long as you think the supplements will add something unique and important to your application feel free to submit them!
@ThatPeprika You are correct! They are asking for your prospective student reference number.
@waddups The September and October ACT score reports were delayed which, if we don’t have it, is probably the reason. If your scores from the ACT have been delayed, don’t panic! We will accept self-reported scores from Early Action applicants who have been notified that their ACT score report is delayed. To send self-reported scores, please forward the e-mail you received from ACT or SAT notifying you that your scores were delayed, along with a screenshot of your multiple choice scores, to collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu. Please note that we will compare self-reported to official scores once received, and will re-review your file if there is a discrepancy.
@Demosthenes12 As long as we have an official transcript you should be fine! Sorry about the confusion!
@UChicago Can I actually see if you have received my SAT Subject test scores via my Chicago account? In my screen view it only says “Official Test Scores” but the date is when I sent my SAT I/R months ago. Whereas the subject test scores were sent only recently. Thanks!
@UChicago Does UChicago make use of a CPI when calculating a student’s demonstrated need?
On paper, compared to the general US population, my family would seem to be quite well off. However, that’s largely a product of my parents’ job leading us to an area with extremely high salaries in general, and prices to match. By way of illustration, my parents’ employer adjusts wages based on the cost of living in an area, and in one of my parents’ case that adjustment is as much as the baseline salary.
The result is that, while most of my parents’ wages go towards living expenses (we have a small house for our household size, no car, and certainly no caviar dinners), our nominal income is far higher than our real income - enough to place us in the upper tiers of the US income distribution.
How might local costs of living affect our need as determined by the University?
@Lift35 Yes, we could consider you to be first generation. In our process, a student is first generation if neither parent has a four-year college degree from any country.
@boatlift We evaluate EA and RD applicants in the same holistic manner, and our criteria for evaluation for both pools is the same.
@NotVerySmart You should contact our financial aid office directly because admissions counselors do not handle financial aid, and we do not want to give you wrong information! Please feel free to e-mail them at college-aid@uchicago.edu or call them at 773-702-8666.
@Ferality You will not automatically be deferred. If you haven’t sent a screenshot with your scores, please do that soon to collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu. Once we receive your official scores, we will compare them to the self-reported ones, even if that is after early action. We will re-review your file if there is a discrepancy.
@UChicago If I am an international applicant for the EA cycle and have not yet received any information about an intervew (filled in request form in October), does that mean I will not have an interview by this point? Thanks!
