UChicago Questions? Ask an admissions counselor!

For all students, is the offer unconditional? (Are students guaranteed admission once they are accepted regardless of their final grade?)

@UChicago Hi there, I’ve sent in my letter of continued interest through the portal and to my regional counsellor along with a question and have received no reply, how can I make sure that it has been added to my file?

@Lopez010 I assume you live in Britain and are referencing the same system UK schools use. Colleges in America are what I would call semi-conditional. The only way you get rescinded is by really messing up. That means extremely poor grades, not graduating high school, or committing a felony.

The general rule for not getting your offer rescinded is No Fs, No Ds, no Felonies.

@UChicago also if you choose both the waitlist for 2022 and gap year for 2023 option, will you be ‘de-prioritised’ for the waitlist option?

@Lopez010 Please know that it’s very rare for offers of admission to be rescinded. If your friend has any further questions, they can reach out to their regional counselor!

@reindeercoffee If you uploaded materials directly to your UChicago Account, then it should automatically upload to your file. To answer your second question, we consider students first and foremost for this year, and then once the class is full for class of 2022 we will move forward to the gap year option.

@UChicago Hi I was waitlisted as a student of the class of 2021 and am now studying at another university. I have sent a letter to my regional admissions officer seeking interest in UChicago. Is it possible I get off the waitlist? Is the waitlist weighted? If I get off the waitlist can I transfer credits ?

@Mohazard1234 In May of 2017, all students on the waitlist for the class of 2021 were released from the waitlist when the admissions cycle ended. Students that wish to be reconsidered for admission for following years have to reapply in the fall.

@UChicago Has anyone been admitted from the waitlist yet this year? Do you have any idea when we should expect our final rejection letters? thanks!

@eviola17 We have been able to admit a very small number of students from the waitlist, but are waiting on May 1 before we can start to look at the waitlist more fully. All students will hear back with a final decision around the middle of May.

Is the waitlist for the class of 2023 on a rolling basis as well? A few friends of mine were already admitted to the class of 2023 - does this mean that admission for the class of 2023 is full? Thanks!

Has the transfer process been completed? If so, when will we be able to view our admission decision?

If I receive my high school diploma and maintain my grades, will I be rescinded for failing to receive my IB diploma?

No

@hj0091 We have now closed consideration for the Class of 2023 gap year option, and at this point our admissions cycle for the year has concluded.
@maroonpen The transfer process has now concluded.
@talkingtrees Please e-mail your admissions counselor, and they will let you know if they need additional information. Please also know that it’s very rare for offers of admission to be rescinded.

@UChicago Do you still offer on-campus interviews to prospective students or are only alumni interviews available?

Hello! I’m not sure whether this is still okay to comment under but I have a few concerns.
I’ve shown an immense interest in uchicago over the last couple of months but unfortunately my GPA’s so far haven’t met its average gpa for admitted students (I’m a sophomore) if I were to work harder on my GPA and standardized tests as well as provide legitimate reasons as to why my grades were lower my first 2 years would my chances still be slim ?
Thank you.

@desie1 This year we will be offering an optional two-minute video introduction opportunity open to all students (replacing the optional alumni and on-campus interviews).

@LovingMouna We employ a holistic approach to reviewing applications, so every part of the application is considered when we make an admissions decision. We are a highly selective college, but we do not have minimum requirements for test scores or GPAs and we don’t want to discourage anyone from applying because of a test score or grade. Feel free to reach out to your regional admissions counselor if you have additional questions!

@UChicago Hello! I’m a prospective UChicago applicant and have recently been working on my Uchicago supplement essays. Do you think a 1200 word extended essay and 800 word why Uchicago is too much? Would you advise some trimming? The why uchicago is 500 words actually but has an additional 400 word anecdote to start, and the extended essay is the letter to an object that has been with me through my life so I described my whole life experience with it.

@UChicago On second thought, I suppose a better question would be how much time each admissions officer spends reading each application.

@UChicago When do applications open up?
