UChicago's Best Kept Secrets?

This is always a great question to ask current students. Anyone have any creative responses? Feel free to get specific.

We have a football team.

Stony Island.

Are there any tunisians who go to uchicago ??

Where to start…

mongolian night at pierce. and the night they have thier smoothie bar: it is fantastic
hallowed grounds and all the other wonderful student run coffee shops
Ratner: the gym that offers tons of cool classes and an olympic size pool you can swim in almost any time of the day

maybe the best kept secret is that Uchicago is as fun as you make it. I decided to make it a ton of fun! :)

If you’re in the Astronomical Society, you are given a key to the roof of Ryerson. The stairs leading up their make you feel like you’re going into a turret, and the views of Chicago from the top (not even mentioning the telescope) are beautiful.

There is a ‘Noodles’ in Hutch. YUM.

All the buildings around Harper are connected - you have to go up and down stairs to do it, but you can get from Social Sciences all the way over to Cobb. It’s awesome in the winter.

Chicago Presents: there are really amazing classical music concerts every Friday at UChicago, in Mandel Hall. Student tickets are $5, but they usually have some reserved for free.

You can get a haircut in the basement of the Reynold’s Club.

Maclean House

The Harper Continuum (the connected buildings) are the best. If you’re on the second floor it’s a straight shot.

The chairs in the Harper Reading Room are more comfortable than any bed you will ever sleep in.

Tiny language classes! We offer a ton of languages, including Armenian, Basque, Georgian, Ge’ez, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Tibetan, Akkadian…I could go on forever, basically.

I’ve actually walked from Social Sciences to Kersten without going outside – you should need some access to the underground pathways. I think my friend goes all the way to BSLC for his classes when it’s too cold to go outside. ;-)

I’m a first year and I just recently discovered there are coffee shops EVERYWHERE. They are great places to study and get your caffeine fill. Plus they are super pretty.

Very true! It takes about a quarter to find out which coffee shop is ‘yours’. But once you do, it’s really comforting  there’s nothing like a latte in Classics Cafe to make an afternoon.

Divinity School’s Hot Chocolate. If only I had some right now…

They have great espresso at the Smart Museum of Art.

There are steam tunnels from Pierce to South Campus. They used to be easily accessible, but people would go down and party in them so now they’re almost impossible to get into.

You can get onto the roof of Harper East Tower pretty easily… just make sure you bring two people, so you can lift one of them into the crawl space about the mechanics room and they can open the door.

You can also get onto the roof of about any other building if you’re creative enough…

There are also a lot of really cool study locations. Since they’re mostly cool because they’re so secretive and reclusive, I’ll leave it to you to find them. Marketing them would ruin them!

There’s also an abandoned underground pool beneath Ida Noyes. Pretty sketchy.

There is more to campus than the library.

-The cafe in Harper Library was remodeled and based on a set in Harry Potter.
-We have some of the coolest shirts ever (that say “Where fun comes to have sex”, “If I wanted an A I would have gone to Harvard”, “Where fun gets Resurrected”, “Uchicago- Where the squirrels are prettier than the girls and manlier than the men”, “UChicago-Because I was waitlisted at Hogwarts”)
-We have FRAT PARTIES.
-We have an underground chamber of secrets under the Quad with files from every applied/admitted student (Undergrad/Grad)… EVER.

There is even more than just frat parties if you know where to look. Parties here are better then anywhere else I have seen.If you can find them.
Fourth meal is a gift from the gods. having waffles and bacon and milkshakes available is beyond awesome.
The dorms in Burton Judson have steaming hot water on tap. This is invaluable during winter.
There are girls here cuter then squirrels. and guys too for that matter.
We don’t bite normally.

I’m not going to lie, fourth meal is prime.
We have something called O-Week, where you will probably hook up with multiple people (we call these O-mances)
There are good looking people here, most of them are usually athletes or former athletes. Not trying to hate, just giving an honest opinion. This school is and always will be quirky, but the extremities are no where near where they used to be.

… and physics majors.
