ok so i decided to finally call admissions because the status about my application is getting a bit out of hand. as of right now my status is still pending, that is exactly what the uci lady just told me. and she said that they are double checking the applications and they are not trying to make any rash decisions. at least tell me if im rejected or not. the last thing she said was that they might have my decision by the end of this week, so idk…

You still haven’t Heard? wow

im still pending as well. better than being rejected

Well good luck man, if you’re waitlisted like some of us here lol don’t feel to bad.

Talked to admissions today, just wanting to understand why I didn’t get in and thought I’d share what she said in case anyone else was interested.

The counselor said that in previous years I would absolutely have gotten in, but their transfer applications increased by 6,000 this year, driving up the minimum gpa. They haven’t figured out the new gpa floor yet. She said if she had talked to me prior to submitting my app, she would have said absolutely I’d have gotten in. So. Mostly just a massive influx of transfer apps.

stats
3.2 overall
3.8 major prep
all prereqs met
okay ec’s, good essay

wow. ill be applying for the fall 2012 qtr. this is just mind blowing to see all of these transfers with really competitive GPAs and still being waitlist/regected… i currently have a 3.44 and will apply as PSB major at uci. i am nervous because i know it will only get more competitive next year. if you didnt already know the uc system is adjusting their TAG program. as of the fall 2011, fall applicants can only tag to one uc campus (excluding: berkley, LA). additionally, this will make the admissions chances even harder than this year!!! this is madness!!! my first choice is UCI so ill tag it but my second(UCSB) third(UCB) and fourth(ucsd) choices will prob be thrown out the door since you pretty much need a 3.9-4.0 for the upper tier schools.

my prediction is that the price of tuition will inflate so much that in 10 years or so the public school system will be just as expensive as private and we will find that post grad students will be in the largest debt of their lives being that their tuition fees far exceed their salaries( if they even have the chance to have a salary). wow i do not know what to say. but we are all in this together. goodluck to all.

Stop worrying! If you tag and have the classes done and min. gpa your good. Also i got a pretty excellent scholarship package from uc…I am paying nothing out of pocket for tuition or books. I know its daunting but youll be FINE. Hope to see you next year at uci!! Starting PSB this fall!!

I have her that next year students will only be allowed to TAG one school. So if anything, jus TAG your dream school…

Is anyone here appealing? What do you think the chances are since theres so many on waitlist and still waiting on a decision?

One of my professors, who claims shes part of the berkeley admissions, said 90% of appeals are usually granted, but I’ve heard otherwise…

@neverneverland, I’ve heard that only 3-10% of appeals are granted. Totally different than what your prof said. Not sure which is right.

I read that few or none got accepted last year. Well, just wondering…

My friend TAGed and had a 3.2 gpa with all the prep cources done… he still got waitlisted :-/

I appealed since I’m a TAG student and they mistakenly thought I missed a pre-req. I still might go to UCSD instead, though. When I dropped off my appeal (I live around the corner from UCI) they said I probably wouldn’t hear anything back until mid-July, which makes it pretty hard to do anything other than assume I won’t get in and plan for UCSD anyway. I’m not too hopeful considering that they’re wait-listing TAG students.

My UCI admissions counselor said my appeal had a good chance since it was their mistake, but I’m not convinced since my major is in the bio department. Getting admitted to the school but not my major would probably lead me to stick with UCSD.

So I just talked to someone in admissions (not my counselor, but someone else bec my counselor wasn’t in) and she told me on my file it says I’m missing some transcripts. They requested my transcripts because I’m a second bachelor’s applicant and it’s a requirement for us… I submitted them and received confirmation from them that they received it, and now they’re telling me I possibly got denied because of missing transcripts?!

^^^
if I were you I would call again and talk to your counselor. The staff who answer the phone only give wrong information. They gave me one information about sending transcripts and when I finally talked to my counselor she told me the opposite. Although they might have access to your file they don’t know the particulars about it. I would for sure try to reach your counselor again in the morning (supposedly is the best time.)

Thanks, will definitely call again. But really, if UCI denied me because of transcripts they lost, ugh.

It seems UCI is taking transfer students from the waitlist this year. Over at the UCI forum, people were accepted last night.

Just got into UCI this morning on appeal…they are only giving me until 6/13/11 to SIR.
Have a choice now between UCSC and UCI…Both UC’s have a good Physics Dept. so it is a hard decision…

@ddss I would choose UCI if I were in your place.
