I don’t even know why I’m stressing over this, considering that I already got into my top schools XD help
@musiclover5 Lucky! Uci and Cal are my last chances to go to one of my top schools so I’m stressed af
Decided to check last year’s info. So apparently someone commented that they got accepted on the 30th which is a little promising? Then again, they’re the only acceptance in that time frame that I saw so could be a fake who knows-
Accepted (3/25/19)
Major: Criminology / Law and Society
SAT: 1290
ACT: 26
EC: None
AP Test: Pass All - AP Euro (3), AP Lang & Comp (4), AP USH (4)
Currently Taking: AP Econ and AP Gov
@Mesudo Were you accepted just now?
Well I’m gonna just believe that I got rejected because I have low stats. It couldn’t be helped that I got low stats cause I’m in a low-income/single-parent household. So I wasn’t able to really prep for SATs (1170) or ACTs (24). But I have taken 6 APs, 5 Hs, and have a UC GPA of 4.07. I don’t think my essays were too good and I don’t have many ECs because I had family to take care of. I did get 120+ hrs of community service, but that’s nothing in comparison to all the other strong candidates on here. I’m trying to major in Psychology, but I don’t think I’m a good enough candidate to be accepted.
Wishing everyone the best. Congrats to everyone who has gotten in!
I will not be checking this anymore unless by some miracle I get in, which is unlikely.
Those scores seem low for UCI! @Mesudo what is your GPA?
Just wondering, but what’s your GPA?
@KidWithQs5436 I hope you talked about your family struggles/experiences on your app. I think caring for your family actually counts as an EC in some cases.
@LeUnderachiever No, this morning.
All acceptances can’t be done. The school admits thousands and thousands of students. 20K+ students, don’t they? And they say it takes a week to get all the notices out. I know it’s anxiety provoking but you’ve waited four year to see where you’re admitted to college. You just have to potentially wait another couple of days.
Yesss totally agree with @apparently22 being patient is the only thing we can do now
at least now we can say that we cannot compare to last year’s cycles
hopefully there’s more acceptances
this is kinda irking, i’m willing to wait but at the same time i’m reaaally not LOLOL.
UW: 3.89
W: 4.56
And those scores are not low. Some people are getting in with 1050 SAT and they shouldn’t be. 1290 is in their 75% tile.
I want to ask since I never really did before, but what do you guys think my chances of getting in are?
Major: English
ACT: 32
SAT: 1320
Unweighted GPA: 3.8 (I’ve only gotten A’s and a few B’s)
Weighted GPA: 4.1
UC GPA: 3.76
APs: Environmental Science (4) and AP Lang (3). Taking AP Stats and AP Lit this year
EC: CSF (Community Service) club president, art and piano lessons
Volunteer: Library Volunteer, assist with community events (parades and festivals)
Essays: 8/10 probably? I really like my essays honestly since they were very personal (even though I see some improvement that could’ve been made), and I got a bit of help from tutors.
Other colleges:
Accepted: CSUF, CSULB, SDSU, UCSC, UCR, Loyola Marymount, Chapman
Waitlisted: UCD, University of Washington, Hamilton
Rejected: USC, UCSD, Emory
Waiting: UCI, UCB
Actually, for EC, I work and I am a personal tutor. I’m not sure if those count…
@zozobee It’s not over til it’s over! You might be the exact interesting mix of experience and talent that they’re looking for … good luck!
To be transparent, a high SAT score is not necessary to get into any of these schools anymore. Sure, they can open the door for many people to get into them, but it really relies on the strength of your essays and how well-rounded you are (extracurriculars, volunteering, etc.). For example, my friend completely failed junior year (almost all C’s), and she got into USC on Saturday. It’s all about what you can bring to the table.
@Mesudo While I don’t agree with the other person saying your stats are low, 1490 is the 75% tile SAT score. 1290 is probably around 30% tile considering the 25% tile is 1230
