SAT: 2200: 680 M, 750 CR, 780 W

@Darkinstar for transfer students the UC system gives priority to California community college students. It is much more difficult to come in as a transfer student from another 4-year university. If you don’t get into your preferred UC school as a freshman and want to get in later as a transfer student then your best bet is to go the community college route.

So UCI sends out it’s first batch of offers - those students may or may not turn down the offer right away - if Student A applied to say, Berkeley and got in, they’ll likely turn down UCI on the spot - which opens up the slot for another applicant. Student B may be waiting to hear back from UCLA, and rather than turn down UCI’s offer, decides to keep their options open by holding off on responding - thus, their slot remains unavailable for another applicant who may not have gotten an offer from UCI yet.
This is why it’s good etiquette to turn down offers from schools once you get into your top choice or have changed your mind about attending somewhere. Your slot that was reserved for you can now go to someone else waiting to get in.

@bluespirit Every college admits more students than the space they actually have because they know that not everyone accepted is coming to their campus. So turning down an offer may not necessarily lead to another applicant getting a slot.
@fusionyx true but I can see how the quote @bluespirit posted could work. If they put out acceptances to their top applicants first and some turn it down right away, then there’s room to replace that accepted applicant by giving an acceptance to another rather than putting that other on a waitlist?

@bluespirit So that quote you posted basically says that the rolling decisions that would come out after the “top students” are admitted is basically an unofficial waitlist that lasts a few days before the “official” waitlist notification comes out. That is an interesting theory. I guess this strategy could potentially admit those who would be otherwise on the top of the waitlist, as the SIR declines and SIR take place from Thursday through Sunday/Monday. If that’s the case then we can reach the following conclusions:
- There is still hope to be admitted
- The final wailist isn’t defined yet and is dependant on early SIR or early SIR turn downs for each major.
- Odds of acceptance are potentially lower than they were on Wednesday if indeed rolling decisions work this way.
Has anyone been rejected yet or know anyone that’s been rejected?

@themason2011 my friend got rejected on the first day and she had an 1800 on the old sat… i’m not sure about her EC’s and all that but i guess it’s just super random when they release decisions.
@bgrande99 they probably reject all the longshots during the first few days?
but what scores actually makes somebody a longshot
@goldenhobbes maybe someone with like a 1000 on new sat and a 3.3 uw gpa and 3.5 uc gpa with minimal extracurriculars?
