I was wondering if anyone transferred to UCI and got approval to stay 3 more years or surpass 216 units.

I was thinking about finishing my BA in Psych in one year and then take 2 years solely dedicated to med school prereqs/neurobio.

Thanks in advance.

Extension to three years as an undergraduate at a UC for a CCC transfer student is unlikely. However, I believe that UCI does have a seperate one to two year post-baccalauriate program taylored specifically for students who plan to apply to medical school that will allow you to meet all medical school prerequisites.

Cool. <a href=“404 | Medical Education | School of Medicine | University of California, Irvine”>http://www.meded.uci.edu/Admissions/postbac.asp

Although, you do need 75% of your prereqs done before you apply to the program. I’d probably just finish up at a cc because of $.

Anybody else from any other UC?

There is no unit cap for UCI. (216 is for UCLA)

After 3 years, they will cut your financial aid. You have to pay out of your pocket afterward.

For the time limit, as far as I know only the school of Bio has a set time limit. Freshman admits get only a total of four years to graduate. Transfers are allowed 3 years after they transfer. Anything more the School of Biological Sciences boots you out. (history is school of humanities so its okay)

Also there is a problem with the med school pre-reqs at UCI. The problem is that med school requires one year bio lab. UCI only have bio labs for upper division classes. So in order to get into a lab you would have to go through two years of biology 93-99.

After two year of bio, you only qualify for 2 labs, biochemistry and molecular bio lab (which are the hardest). In order to qualify for other labs you have to take the upper division course that corresponds to those lab.

If you don’t want to take biochem or mol bio lab, that would mean you have to take an additional 3 upper division bio classes in order to qualify for the other labs. That means going through 3 years of biology before you qualify for taking labs.

If you go through that, you would have realized that you finished 80% of a bio degree already.

My solution to this problem is to not take the biology pre-reqs at UCI. Take your g-chem, o-chem, and physics at UCI. Then take the 1 year of biology with LAB at a local community college. This solves the bio lab problem.

Also this bio lab problem probably exists at other UC’s too so I would look before you decide to do your pre-reqs there.

I know forsure that UCB and UCLA don’t have this problem because their lower division biology classes have associated labs with them.

See that’s what amazes me, I just talked to a UCI counselor and honest to God she said 216 was their cap.

And thank you for the time and effort.

Anybody petition for 3rd year aid? Easy? Needle in the eye?

Really?

Did anyone transfer with some Social Science or Humanity major and then switch to like Engineering or Physics?
