UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

I got UCI grant with excess money from it, can I use the excess for housing too?

@adreezybones yes you can! They will write you a check with the remaining funds and you can use that for housing

Sorry, it’s possible I misinterpreted something. But I do believe Blue and Gold combines all forms of gift aid together (expect Pell, that’s separate) to form one large grant? Lol I wish my CC had financial aid workshops for 4 year universities

@ilovemydog2019 no need for sorry. yeah because to my understanding blue and gold only covers fees and tuition and no housing. UCI grant does cover housing if you have money left after your tuition and fees are payed off

Thanks for the information everyone ?? FA is so confusing to me lmao

I’m a bit confused with the Estimated Undergraduate Health Insurance Waiver. It says “unconfirmed” in the MyAid Terms breakdown page, so do you get it as part of your financial aid once they know you already have health insurance? I’m part of my family’s plan so I wouldn’t be getting it through UCI. I’m just wondering because with it my tuition is basically covered.

It’s mandatory that all UC students have health insurance. So if you don’t, they charge you for it (it’s called UC SHIP) unless you provide proof that you have health insurance. Some students are able to get UC SHIP through a grant which the university gives.

Wait the $13k tuition and fees that’s stated, does that include the UC SHIP fee already? Or is that separate?

I believe it is separate but I’m not sure.

Deleted. I think better ask UCI on Monday.

Just declined UCI since I just got official message from UCLA confirm that my admission stands.

@adreezybones Based on this link I feel the insurance is included. Is from last year to this year but this should give an idea. https://www.reg.uci.edu/fees/2018-2019/undergrad.html

@adreezybones also the estimate in the long does not include housing.

@C105213 thanks dude! Been very helpful!

Guys I’m kinda confused, if I applied for housing through the link on the portal is that the same application for housing in the ACC apartments? I mean because it asked me to rank my preferred ACC communities. Or do I have to apply through the particular community’s website?

@C105213 the link you sent does include it. OP was citing just tuition and fees, which she noted at about $13,000. Berkeley separates it out as well from tuition and general fees. So the final is well over $15,000 in all cases with added SHIP.

@Ohm888 yeah my shopping sheet says tuition and fees it’s $13k and it doesnt say if it includes the ucship or it doesnt say if I got a fee waiver or something

@adreezybones if you go on aid by terms next to shopping sheet you will be able to see how much each term will cost you. And that’s how you know how they knew how much to let you have. Assuming housing and all that. I hope that health insurance is included in aid by terms. I don’t see how they would include housing in each term and not health insurance

I forgot I got the information from whom, but the estimate costs from UCI included the USHIP. In case you waive it, your financial aid will still be that same amount as UCI expects that you still have to pay for health insurance from other providers.

Different from UCI, UCLA separates USHIP so that you will get lower financial aid if you waive USHIP by having another health insurance.

I just applied for housing through UCI. I was doing applications for ACC and UCI housing, but realized that UCI only requires a 20 dollar fee, and not a 300 dollar deposit like ACC  Hopefully I get my first pick.
