UCI Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

looks like financial aid is out!

I don’t see Cal Grant in my FA. If I receive Can Grant, will the University Grant go down? So far UCI offers me $2,000 less than UCLA. But UCLA counted Cal Grant A. Does anybody know if we appeal and get Cal Grant, then will University Grant deduct that Cal Grant amount to match the initial offer?

I called UCI and got the answer. So the Financial Aid offered a fixed amount. If I receive State Grant, University Grant will be deducted to maintain that fixed amount.

So UCLA offers me more just because they have their own Healthcare Insurance, they provide me extra 2,500 to pay for that insurance.

So I think FA from both of them are equal.

Yeah my aid from ucsd and uci is almost the same. Not sure how i feel about that

My aid from UCI is actually a tad bit more compared to UCSB and UCLA. UCB gave me the most ( around 4k more compared to UCI)

Uci almost completes all my costs, while UCSB gave me barely anything

Does anyone else’s MyAdmission page say “You have a HOLD on your record” under Admissions Summary?

@alexismarie that’s a hold from your school. We all have that. It won’t be removed until we do the summer academic session

@C105213 Okay cool, thank you!

@alexismariah you’re welcome!

@alexismariah Mine says the same thing. As far as I can tell, every admitted student has a hold on their account until they get academic advising from a counselor.

Damn the financial aid sucks. I will still have to get $9,300 in loans. Berkeley is $9,500 in loans. I cant imagine being almost $20k in debt. This is crazy.

Im kind of surprised UCI has given me the most grant money out all the schools I’ve been admitted to.

The financial aid calculates your rent, transportation, foods, etc. So in my case, after paying tuition, books, uni fees, I still got a refund. That is good enough.

I’ve been keeping an eye on this thread for quite some time but never bothered to make an account till now bc I’m a bit confused on the FA.
So I have a Cal Grant A for ~12k reserved until I transfer but on my FA info it’s not listed. Instead it shows a UC Irvine Grant for $18 K. Is the cal grant absorbed into the uci grant?? Or are they separate things and if separate why isn’t my cal grant there??

If you got the UCI Grant that means you have the Blue and Gold grant, which covers tuition and possibly more based on your need. You can’t have both a Cal Grant and Blue and Gold together, unfortunately.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to “calculate” or make a guess if you get a refund? I’ll be living in VCD apartements and I don’t have to pay for tuition (Blue and Gold covers it), but I can’t tell if my aid will be used up on fees or if I’ll get some back…

@ilovemydog2019 really? I called financial aid before they close and asked if UCI grant and blue and gold are the same. The lady I spoke with told me they are separate. UCI grant comes strictly from UCI and blue and gold comes from the UC system. But I wonder if she was right? Because they really both sound the same. I’m pretty happy with what I got. I’m technically covered including housing. God is good!

@ilovemydog2019 if your UCI grant covers your tuition and you still have refunds I heard through someone else they wrote you off the remaining balance in a check and you can use that for housing

@xxmartha it is just estimated, provision offer. Later when you get Cal Grant, the University Grants will go down by absorbing the Cal Grant.

You can get Blue and Gold but after calculating all Federal Grants and Cal Grants. For example, in my case, after receiving Pell Grants and State Grants, I still receive Blue and Gold.
