is there any easier transition to get into ucla by applying as a math/econ major than a business econ major? also are there any transfer tips that anyone can provide to apply after my freshman year? such as when to start applying, what gpa to get, if ec’s matter or not, etc. thanks and God bless.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you can essentially rule out a one year UC to UC transfer. In order to be competitive, you’ll have to finish the majority of UCLA’s prereqs for your major along while finishing your GEs at UCI to get UC Reciprocity. This will be very difficult to finish in the next three quarters. You’ll also need 90 quarter units to transfer to UCLA, as they don’t accept anything other than junior level transfers. Finally, one year transfers can only be evaluated by their first quarter, which isn’t enough to give UCLA a good look at why they should accept you.

All of the majors you listed are fairly to very competitive. With the UC to UC transfer handicap in mind, you should try to get no less than a 3.7 GPA before applying.

ECs matter, but far less than prereqs, UC Reciprocity, and GPA.

If you still would like to apply this year, application open Oct 1st. You can submit between Nov 1st-Nov 30th

i wish they would make a sub forum for UC to UC transfers, all our answers to them are the same and they need a sticky.

It’s difficult to transfer UC to UC. Personally I feel it’s not fair.

right? because these kids have already a chance while there are kids without a chance and money…

I don’t think it’s that much more difficult to transfer UC to UC than from CC to UC. Statfinder seems to show only about a 10% difference in acceptance rates, although it is probably harder to get a high GPA at a UC than a CC.

The UCs should accept transfers on merit alone, regardless of origin. Leave the Cal States to accept the bulk of the medicore students.

I found this on the UCLA transfer admission guide 2012-2013
“We give highest priority to students who are transferring from California community colleges or other University of California campuses.” ???

UC intercampus really get priority? I thought we were the last of priorities. Also, is the standard for GPA “generally” lower for intercampus transfers than ppl from CC’s?

@bostonbryan
it seems to be less competitive to apply as math/econ, as math/econ are more likely to be accepted with a lower GPA.

UC intercampus transfers are second priority, above Cal State and out of state transfers.

No, it is not standard for accepted UC Intercampus transfers to have a lower GPA than accepted CC students. Generally the GPAs are exactly the same, or differ only by .01 or so. Probably an unfair policy, but that’s the way it is.

@nero, exactly my reasoning. not sure if you were being sarcastic but what you what you said is exactly my point.

not a believer in second chances or a fresh starts?

maybe in certain situations, but in terms of deciding the future of your education in relation to a University of California, you should only get one chance.

going to a UC is a supreme privilege not many in America get. It should be a one shot, one chance decision.

“Oh sure, transfer from UCLA Dental school to UCSF’s if you wish.”

I assume you had a chance in high school

^ entirely different.
