I need to make a decision this week, I need help, what school do you think is better?

UCI is obviously better. It’s ranked in the top 50 schools of the nation and can offer you many more opportunities than Cal State Fullerton will ever be able to provide.

ditto— unless for some reason you have a major that is unique to CSU Fullerton

Well, to an extent. Too often, young people coming out of high school and college don’t realize that the school you go to will be more of a factor for your first job or two. After that, the school you went to just doesn’t matter that much. Pragmatically speaking, why would it matter?? It’s what you bring to the table as far as experience, abilities, background, skills and talent that matters later on in one’s career. So I would ease up on the “ever be able to provide” type of language so often seen on this site.

With that said, what are you majoring in? That is a crucial factor in the decision you make.

also, does the cost difference matter to you?

I am majoring in Computer Engineering and thinking of maybe either doubling or changing to Physics.

Thanks for your replies they are very Helpful!

go to irvine and dont look back…

In that case, I would definitely go to UCI. I don’t think Fullerton is that well regarded in that area and having an engineering degree from a UC school versus a Cal State school (with the exception of Cal Poly SLO/Pomona) would probably serve you better. If you were pursuing accounting, I would have definitely said Fullerton as they have one of best accounting programs in California.

For both engineering and physics, UCI is undoubtedly better. The Cal State schools tend to have tiny physics programs and thier engineering programs aren’t too good either, with the exception of SLO and Pomona.

I wouldn’t say that the Cal State engineering programs “aren’t too good”. They have some other solid engineering programs like San Jose, Los Angeles and Northridge, though not as strong as the Cal Poly schools. Many good companies hire plenty of graduates from those schools.

The Cal State engineering programs tend to be more applied/hands on and less theoretical than the UC programs. The applied/hands on approach is great preparation for the workforce. Part of the reason I recommended UCI is because Fullerton, from my understanding at least, is not that strong in engineering.

go to irvine
i honestly think it is foolish to ever go to a csu over a UC
except SDSU or Cal Poly, but only when comparing with maybe UCR, or merced
and only depending on what ur majoring in

Foolish? In what sense? You need to expand on that ever so foolish remark…

Fullerton has an excellent accounting program, but you aren’t interested in that.

Absolutely, UCI. Most freshmen live in the dorms at UCI – that’s not the case at Fullerton. Fullerton has very few dorms and the school is enormous (in terms of the number of students). Negating the obvious edge in academics, at UCI the social scene is flat out better. I really can’t see how UCI wouldn’t have the edge unless you live near Fullerton and can’t afford the UC tuition.
