got into UCL for comparative economics and policy, and nottingham for international law and development (LLM).
i know the two degrees are quite different in what they encompass, but what i’m truly interested in is a lively, solid social scene, a strong degree, good networking and good employment prospects.
ideally i’d like to go into consulting, but that’s in no way set in stone (just to give you some perspective)

thoughts? prior experiences? are UCL and nottingham considered good schools in their own respect?

UCL will definitely give you an excellent social scene! I live in London and chose not to apply to Nottingham in the end because of location, (3/5 of my choices were in London) but I think it’s a good school. UCL and the other London unis are also said to trump most other universities in England purely in the sense that the London location allows for ample networking opportunities with top law firms etc which are established in the area. But it depends on what you are looking for, I’m guessing as you didn’t apply for the LLM at both places you’re not necessarily determined to end up in law so that might not be relevant.

UCL and Nottingham are both considered good schools here but UCL would definitely get the edge, I think. There is no official measure of prestige and ultimately it’s up to which course suits you more but UCL is commonly perceived as just below Oxbridge, regardless of how true that is, and I would place Nottingham alongside Bristol, Warwick etc but maybe below that.

Remember costs in UCL will be significantly higher as London is insanely expensive, almost every other university would be cheaper. UCL garuntees accommodation for first years at a reasonable rate though and London as plenty of opportunities for part time work.

This website [University Degrees Courses & Reviews | Whatuni.com](http://www.whatuni.com/) allows you to read reviews from current undergrads which will evaluate the social scene in Nottingham better than I can, and unistats is a website with data on employability and earnings of graduates based on the course they completed. I can’t locate the course you got an offer for myself but our offer letter should have the course code on it.

I would also research the departments quite carefully–while I can definitively say UCL has a better perception here their Economics department might be lacking compared to the law department of Nottingham.

UCL is more of a feeder to consulting than Nottingham for general prestige as well as location.
