UCLA Achievement Scholarship: Only for 4.0 GPA students

I was accepted to UCLA this year, yet I did not end up going because of money. I received around $21,000 in free money, but I would have taken around $9,000 in loans after all. My EFC is 0 with my dad only earning about $21,000 for a family of 5. I had straight A’s except in AP English and Intro to Philosophy (college class I took while being in high school) where I got a B. I do not understand why I did not get the scholarship. Two of my friends had 4.0 GPAs and they both received the Achievement Scholarship. So, I want to understand if it is only awarded to people with 4.0 GPAs. I am going to a community college right now to save some money, but I will hopefully transfer after one year (I have 40 Units so far). When the application time arrives, I will eventually need to put that I received a B in Intro to Philosophy and I do not want that to cost me a scholarship that is worth around $9000.

Who has received The Achievement Scholarship and what was your GPA? Is there anyone that received the scholarship but did not have a 4.0 GPA.

In another thread from Spring, a few people without 4.0s said they got the Achievement Scholarship, which targeted the top 5% of students in relation to both need AND merit based recognition. Regardless, you shouldn’t emanate a sense of entitlement about this.

Tons of students come from backgrounds where their finances are non-existent. This is why Blue & Gold exists. If you still need to make up the difference, you can: get a loan, get a job, apply for outside scholarships, work/study, Americorps, etc.
