UCLA Admission Contract Issue

D25 got admitted. The senior year She got 1 C in AP Calc in the first semester, and a mix of Bs and As, with total grade way above B average. The problem is, she might also end up getting a C in the second sem in either AP Calc or AP Chem and there is just no way for us to know now. The semester ends in early June. As other folks mentied in other threads, UCLA admission contract requires we report if there are two C’s.

I understand that UCLA is the only UC that has this specific requirement ..even Cal doesn’t ask this. Anyway, we are pretty stressed about this. There is no obvious reasoning we can give - she took 3 APs this year… and senioritis… but those are not good reasons at all. FYI her overall grade in the last three years wasnt super super high but she had great rigor and college courses, good AP score etc. Her major is humanities so likely math grade is not an issue, and she might do well in the AP tests, but those results wont come until later. So there is this HUGE uncertainty that’s killing us. What if we commit to UCLA. and eventually they rescind? She has offers from other UCs too, but i understand that after May 1st, they go down the drain and you cant get them back.

So, the question for experienced folks here: what are the chances UCLA will rescind if she gets a second C in a math OR a science AP subject ? . Do you know of anyone in the past in this situtaion and what happened to them? What are the non- negotiable reasonins for rescinding? e.g., F? or grade beliw 3.0? Do you know where in UCLA 's policy list the exact language is about when they rescind? Do they publish data aboit this? Anything to help us gauge the probability of being rescinded. FYI we called and talked to the admission office..they are very nice but they cant say anything meaningful until they see the whole grade for the year. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

UCLA historically has never rescinded for 2 C’s Senior year. For D’s and F’s yes and a major drop in GPA well below a 3.0.

The exact language is listed in the conditions of admission so they could rescind for not meeting any of the conditions. Schools do not like to rescind so if she ends up with 2 C’s Senior year, then just notify UCLA before transcripts are sent with an explanation.

None of the schools will give a definitive answer until they review transcripts so unfortunately it is a chance that students have to take by enrolling and seeing where they stand. As I stated, 2 C’s should not be an issue as long as report those grades.

Thanks a lot. Do colleges publish the data related to this somewhere?

Data regarding the number of students that do not meet the conditions of admission?

Yes, regarding how many they rescind after giving admission.

Admissions may have the data but I am not aware that it is available to the general public on the UCOP website.
