UCLA AP Credits

Got it, thank you so much!

What’s the minimum GE credit requirement? We understand most of credits earned from AP exams and dual enrollments in HS are counted toward graduation, not GE credits. Does it mean it’s possible to have bachelor’s degree in 3 years? We barely heard anyone is able to graduate early, UCLA freshman had 10-15 combined AP exams and dual enrollment in avg. which is enough to skip one year.

Thank you in advance!

It is not uncommon for UCLA students to graduate early. Maybe not a full year early, but often one or two quarters early. Of course it depends on major, if they took classes over the summer, and how efficiently the student planned their courses

I have an employee who was a rigorous STEM major at UCLA and graduated fall quarter their senior year. I have a relative who could have graduated fall quarter senior year, but added a minor so finished winter quarter senior year.

It depends on the major. Check how many credits are needed for your major. Some are very short like PoliSci. S18 had plenty of non-STEM friends graduate a year early because there was no study abroad (which would normally fill a quarter or two) during Covid.

Graduating early is pretty common, even in STEM majors. Myself and many fellow CS majors are graduating 1+ years early, mostly because a lot of us have done the math 31-33 sequence at local community colleges before coming in.

AP exams do not count towards GE credits, but dual enrollment does. I know several people, including myself, who have knocked out GEs from high school DE courses.

Quick question for foreign language: S24 only took 3-year Spanish class in HS without taking AP Spanish exam, does he need take a foreign language class to meet graduation requirement while his major in Statistics? If it is, how many foreign language classes does he need?

Thanks.

Without the AP, you have to complete level 3 or pass the exemption exam. If you don’t pass the exam, placement will determine whether you start in Spanish 1, 2 or 3:
