I am not that clear about UCLA’s AP credits too. We are statistics and data science major, in that case, S24 can only waive math 31A and 31B with AP Calculus BC, and start math 32A. How about the rest 10 AP courses’ credits (AP bio, AP Chem, APWH, AP Lang AP Lit etc)? Can these be credits toward all his GE course credits?

It is not the OP’s pronoun unless she is using the royal we and is herself the student in question. If she is referring to her chid’s major, then “we” is not the appropriate pronoun as it is first person, not third - unless they are actually both students and both majoring in stats and data science at the same university, which I suppose is possible?

It simply means my S24 got in that major, and I have AP credit questions for him. He told me UCLA is not generous for AP credit, even those college credits we took may not count. Start over now.

We were careful in only taking classes that will “transfer” just in case S24 didn’t get in and will actually need to transfer from CC.

APs do not count towards GEs. AP Chem counts for Chem 20A. AP BC counts for Math 31A and 31B. AP Physics Mechanics counts for Physics 1A. AP Lang counts for English Composition 3. No other AP units are accepted other than by specific departments for specific reasons (AP Stats for the stats dept, AP Psych for the psych department).

what score on physics c mechanics is needed to skip physics 1A? and does physics e&m count towards anything?
4 or 5 oh Physics mechanics counts for 1A. E&M doesn’t count for anything because UCLA physics 1B doesn’t exactly align with all of the E&M exam, and has more coverage (fluids, etc).
I just realized it won’t count anyways because I’m not in college of engineering (right?)
It counts for anyone. It can’t be used to fulfill a GE requirement though.
Does AP CHINESE count for any foreign language requirement?

To clarify it counts for the corresponding classes on the chart only if that class is required for the major. If you’re a MechE and get a 5 on AP Calc you can get the corresponding math credit for the class. If you’re an English major Math 31 isn’t required for your major and since AP credits can’t count for GEs then it’s just empty units to help get you over the min needed to graduate.
I wouldn’t worry too much about AP credits. I was a EE major and didn’t use any AP credits and got out in 4 years taking roughly 3 classes a quarter. I did take a summer session which many students do.
Found the 2024 AP scores had been posted to myUCLA portal, and want to know the score 5 of AP US Government will count as one course in GE category. On UCLA AP credit link, it says below:
Government and Politics – United States
Credit for “United States” (4 units)
Satisfies American History and Institutions requirement (AH)

AP scores cannot count for any GE credits. AH is not a GE requirement, rather, it is a “basic proficiency” that is expected to be met in high school; if not, one of the GEs you take must fill this requirement as well.
