I am a cc student in Illinois. After this current semester, I will have 5 total semesters with around 68 credits under my belt. Suppose I apply to transfer to ucla for fall 2015, do I still need to take classes in the spring during the application process even if i have all prereqs completed? Also, I have a 4.0 and I would like to know what sort of chance I may have.

if your prereqs are done and there’s nothing else you want to fulfill prior to coming to UCLA you don’t have to take any courses in Spring. Although, I would recommend it because at 68 you’re just above minimum and even if all your units transfer it’s always nice to have some extra so you can relax a little bit when you’re at UCLA. At a 4.0 you’re extremely competitive.

It’s too late to apply for fall 2015 as the application window was the month of Nov.Iif you wish to apply for fall 2016 it is doable without taking any more classes, unless like @CalBruin said, you want to tuck away a few more units. Be aware of the unit caps, which vary, but are around mid-high 80s.

If you decide to wait a year to apply I would suggest getting a full-time job in your field as you’re talking almost an 18-month wait. Although I think Merced takes applications in Spring. Their submission period, I believe is January (not sure - check now). You could very possibly swing that and then later do a Uc-UC transfer, if need be, although you’ll be talking about close to a senior level transfer.

I for one think Merced will eventually outpace Riverside, so it’s not necessarily the end of the world.

If you have already applied (your post is not clear), you can take some classes or not.
