UCLA BUS/ECON or Georgetown Business

Not sure if this is a right forum to post . My son got acceptances in Bus/Econ UCLA and School of Business Georgetown… We are Asian. He would like to study about business and want to focus on technology , data analysis etc. The course in Georgetown seems fit him more ( plus class size is much smaller than that of UCLA ) but I read lots of comments in CC that students from Georgetown mainly find jobs in Banking and consulting firms while UCLA students may find jobs in start up or tech companies easier . My son is more interested to work in IT related firms . Some of my friends also said that though my son loves to study in Business, he should study Economis to develop his logcal thinking during undergraduate and study MBA for business interest thereafter. I understand that Georgetown is one of the prestigious name, but UCLA 's name is more famous in my country because of its higher ranking.

Can anyone please help sharing your thought about those two schools? Is Georgetown business school good ? How is the Bus/Econ courses in UCLA ? Can he find some electives courses in data anytical ? Many thanks !

Sorry I can’t be of much help, but a friend of a friend was recently talking about how the quality of UCLA’s econ classes was pretty abysmal. If the costs equate the same, I would personally choose Georgetown.

No, actually, he didn’t. Look again at the letter. He got accepted to pre-Bus/Econ. In order to be accepted into the actual major he needs to complete the prereq classes and earn a 3.3 score on their calculator. See http://www.econ.ucla.edu/undergraduate/majors/bizecon.cfm

Your friends’ advice is of little help. The better MBA programs require a few years of work experience before admission. Have they explained to you how he’s going to do that? I bet not, since they don’t seem to know much about the process of MBA admissions. It sounds like they’re confidently giving you “advice” that they’re making up rather it being than based on an understanding of a career path.

Thank You very much for comments . Now new option arrives, My son just got accepted in Ross preadmitted at U of Michigan. We may select Ross then
