Major: Chemistry
GPA: 3.5
TAP: Yes
IGETC: Complete
Prerequisites: close to completion
Essay: Should be strong
ECs: Full time work, 100+ community service hours, worked at a Lab for almost a year
Other: upward trend in grades. first year at CSUSM i was academically disqualified, came to a CCC preformed well. (got 2 B’s, 1A, 1C last semester due to my mom passing away)

I think you have a good chance. Just maintain your grades. Your mom passing away will definitely count as a compelling reason for your academic disqualification so make sure you talk about it in the section where you can give explanations. Its a good idea to TAG with other UCs just as a backup.

I also think you have a good shot and TAP will make you priority so that’s good. I say definitely focus one of the prompts on last semester and how difficult it was for you and how you have grown from it. Also keep that GPA up!

You have a good chance, just keep up your grades, if not get higher grades. Sorry about your mom, and make sure you write that on your application!

Good luck!

At the risk of looking like an insensitive prick, I would probably advise you not to put too much emphasis on the death in the family part, unless of course it actually did take up like 50% of the time that you spend on academics. I think you would be better off focusing on how you balanced full time work and school. I mean they’ll definitely feel sorry for your loss, but when it comes down to business, they just care about how you’ll do at UCLA. That said, keep up the good work and you definitely have a good chance of being admitted.

Source: I’ve tried the emotional appeal thing before, didn’t really help me much.

I’m a chem major and im transferring to Berkeley this fall I got into UCLA too. it’s so easy to get in you should be fine. I got in without finishing two calc classes and a physics class, but my GPA was at around 3.78. my other friend got in with a 3.6 and even less classes completed.

“it’s so easy to get in”
no.
