***UCLA CLASS OF 2019 APPLICANT DISCUSSION THREAD***

@petercho1996‌ Don’t be, haha. I don’t think anyone on here now possess current knowledge of what the scholarship invitation might possibly mean. Decisions might be out next week. The time for speculation is more or less over

Anyone receive an engineering likely letter? They are sent about this time.

@petercho1996

The bottom line is the Alumni Scholarship invitation doesn’t mean acceptance. We have a friend whose kid was invited to apply for the scholarship few years ago and was rejected by UCLA at the end.

I know that we’re speculating the date is March 20th, but when do they usually announce the decision date? Do they even announce it at all? Or is it just like oh hey look it’s on my portal today.

According to the website, admission are released: March 1 to May 1.

UCLA and UC Berkeley apps are probably even more insane than last year :-/

@mlegoldstein I don’t think they’ll announce the actual decision date, it’ll just show up.

Does UCLA call like UCSD does?

@studycollege‌ Nobody I know has gotten a call from UCLA so they probably aren’t calling early :frowning:

Hey guys! Gonna join in and just say that I’m currently a freshman at UCLA and am here to answer any questions regarding admission decisions or ANYTHING about the school! Finals are next week and I’m trying to procrastinate haha

What is the lowest stats you heard of for a freshamn getting in last year @saratoga37‌ thnks

@saratoga37 when ucla released decisions did they send you an email to check your portal or was the acceptance embedded in the email? Also on what day of March did you check your acceptance?

@imjennah‌ Hmm… lowest stats… I don’t have exact numbers because no one really talks about them here but I think some minorities got in with SATs around the 1800s? I got in with a 2070 superscored but I’m also a white girl haha. Not exactly sure about ACT. Also keep in mind that UCLA is very holistic! I think my extracurriculars and essay are what got me in.
@awesomesauce8312‌ I know for a fact that the acceptance wasn’t embedded in the email; it was on the portal. Not sure they even sent an email to check the portal, I just kept periodically refreshing the page to see if I’d gotten in haha. Follow this thread and start checking when people say they heard it was going to be released! Pretty sure they sent out acceptances March 22nd? Whenever it was a Friday. So you guys will probably get your decisions next Friday

@saratoga37‌ I’m a Hispanic minority from a small town, and compared to others in my school I have high stats, have a less then average GPA but that’s because I went through some personal things that I spoke about in my personal statement, and how it strengthened me as a student, went from a 3.2 to a 4.3 and has stood pretty high. SAT 1920 super scored and 29 ACT composite, with leadership and good extracurriculars, I applied as a Korean major so Im keeping my fingers crossed that I will get in

At some point soon UCLA and UCB will put out a date and time that they are releasing decisions.

@saratoga37 I keep hearing UCLA professors give grades based on a quota system with a predetermined amount of A’s in every class, especially in the calc and science classes. From your experiences, is this true?

@imjennah‌ I’m not an admissions counselor so I can’t tell you for sure, but if you explained it in your personal statement and everything else about your application is strong then you should be fine!
@doc325‌ As a former pre-med student (switched out not from the stress or difficulty, but because I realized I wasn’t interested in becoming a doctor–so I can answer some stuff on this!), I’d say that is the case in every science and math class I’ve taken so far (I’ve taken chem, calc, stats, and LS and all had a quota system). I think the mathematics department requires a quota but not the sciences; most sciences still choose to do this. But this is NOT a bad thing AT ALL! I came in thinking it would hurt me, and it stressed me out all 1st quarter, but it can ONLY help you! I was supposed to get a B in calc and a C+ in chem, but because of the “quota” I got curved to an A- and B respectively. So yes, it exists, but it never lowers a grade–it can only boost it if anything

@saratoga37‌ thanks! Also, ive been told that parking permits are extremely expensive and its not really pressing to bring a car to campus. Is this true?

Agh it’s so nerve wrecking not knowing when the date is! I hope I get in and see some of you guys there! Just wondering, did anybody here receive a request to submit supplemental information in like January/February? Because nobody at my school did besides myself which makes me nervous.

What exactly did you have to submit @cly0824‌. I thought supplements only applied to certain majors.

@imjennah‌ and don’t supplements apply to special cases like physically impaired people, athletes and dyslexic students?
