like this if you’re OOS!
@yellowmamba45 sort of… i mean i think i’d be ok, i have a 31 ACT composite, but my english was 34, reading 33, and reading/writing combined of 33, as well as a 4 on AP Lang Comp and USH examS. Do you think they also look for ECs to support an undeclared humanities major? The only reason i applied undeclared is because i want to teach, but there’s no UCLA education major, and i’m pretty sure i want to teach english (but not positive). And hopefully it’s clear that that’s my intention seeing as how i wrote my larger essay about a teacher influencing my chosen career path
@alicantekid ok so it’s not like it’s harder because they dont have a specific major to place me in?
I really do hope that receiving an email and call for the Alumni Scholarship increases one’s chances
@erinb0731 the composite score is about average for UCLA but your individual english scores are really good. Did you do SAT II’s for english and history? idk if those are recommended or not. EC’s are definitely a factor, but idk how important to humanities… the essay might woo them if you wrote really strong ones. In my opinion, i would say you have a good chance
@yellowmamba @imthereal thanks for your response! so it would not have had done any harm to my admission decision, right? thanks for relieving me, phew.
@yellowmamba45 i only took math 2 and US history, but both my scores were pretty bad and i didnt submit, which is partially why I turned to the ACT in the first place. I’m on a competitive mock trial team with a very long winning streak/legacy (20 consecutive years as regional champs out of about 10 teams) and i’m a starting attorney on that team with a couple individual awards. Other than that (since it pretty much takes up my life and time), i dont really have any other “humanities” specific ECs (some volunteer work related to mock trial and unifying people from diverse backgrounds though). I think I had very strong essays so hopefully that’ll do it. You never know with UCs though, especially with UCLA’s insane volume of apps this year. Thank you so much for your feedback!
@erinb0731 don’t worry about major specific EC’s! While those are important many people don’t have any related to their major (like me: I have none in engineering). As long as you show commitment to them that’s the important thing. I wish you the best of luck and hope to see your admission post in a week!
Congratulations everyone on their acceptances. Hope we all get in UCLA. Nervous as hell, I know.
How difficult is it to get into Economics major in UCLA?
Does it usually select multiple students with the same major in one high school?
@desperado3223 at my school last year (public but pretty small overall, about 1200 total) about 80 applied to UCLA, and 17 got in. The people I know at least got in for Dance, Theatre, Engineering, and Business (not sure about the other 13). I’m sure there was at least some overlap in majors with the others who were accepted. I can’t imagine they would accept only a set amount of Economics majors from a certain high school, but would instead look at it holistically based on how many applicants this year applied as Econ majors. Don’t worry!
@desperado3223 i don’t think they care about major. they just admit people by college
@erinb0731
Oh that makes me comforted so much! Really appreciate your response.
@nat97xo
Is that so?? Then it’d be great to see me and my best friend attend Berk together as Econ majors…Thank you so much bro
Im anxious I wont get in, and them im anxious ill get into all my dream schools, then im gonna have to choose. Anyways, good luck to everyone ^^/
Got the letter a couple of days ago as well. 4.0 UW, not sure of weighted (took 4 AP classes by end of junior year, 7 by senior year), 2250 SAT, 35 ACT, 800 Math II, 740 Chem, subpar ECs.
I got the engineering letter!!! 3.92 uw, 4.65 w, 2250 SAT, 33 ACT, 780 Math II, 650 chem, 770 US History, good extracurriculars with leadership displayed, good essays. I’m still kind of skeptical that this means I got in. I’m not celebrating quuuuite yet, but honestly I’m super stoked.
3.6 weighted gpa, 3.4 unweighted. 1790 gpa. )Showed great improvement from sophomore to junior year.) 5 APs. Good EC’s, track for all four years of HS, and I have a job. I think my essays were pretty good too but who knows. I applied under the African American Studies Major not because I was trying to pick an unpopular major, but because I am actually interested in the topic. I know my stats aren’t that great but I am still hopeful. (I am a black female.) Anyone with similar information to mine? Comment back, I’m nervous!!!
Can someone confirm that UCLA does not look at major but just at the overall department (ie. Engineering)?
@trackgirl916 I have similar stats.
GPA (weighted): 3.86
SAT: 1710
6 AP
EC: Band (4 years), Leadership (1 year, Treasurer), CSF (3 years), AP Club (VP 2 years), Swim Team (3 years)
I have a job.
Essays: Talked about how experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and depression helped me make the right choices for a better future and how my experiences changed my view of the world.
I got the Supplemental Questionnaire and they asked for first semester grades and I had a 4.3.
Can you guys tell me what letters you are talking about?
