Pre means there are requirements to be met before declaring the major. Specifically in your case for Pre Math, here’s what UCLA has to say:

  • Each pre-major course must be passed with a “C” or better. Pre-major GPAs for mathematics and economics courses are calculated separately, and both pre-major GPAs must meet a minimum 2.7.

They call everything “pre-“(name of major) at UCLA until they finish the entry requirements their first couple of years. My son was “pre- Business Econ” until he finished prerequisites and now he’s officially in the major. Congrats!
