UCLA Class of 2028 Official Thread

It’s a weird world.

Son accepted to UCLA, waitlisted at UCSD, rejected by UCSC.

As an aside, last year he was accepted to UCSC with a scholarship and an invitation to college scholars program but he decided to take a gap year. Nothing really changed on his application.

I mention this only to say that this whole thing definitely has some luck to it, and everyone should be proud of their accomplishments regardless of what school accepts them.

For anyone interested, 4.0UW GPA, 4.6FW GPA, 42 Dual Enrollment Credits, Homeschooled, Part Time Job, Nationally ranked in a quirky competitve game.

UC Capped Weighted GPA: 4.2
UC Fully Weighted GPA: 4.8

I will update her AP/honors classes later tonight.

We are so excited. I’ve been a nervous wreck all day and was really hoping for a yes here. Thank you to Gumbymom for always being so receptive and awesome to all of us on here. I so appreciate your patience. It’s been a very difficult 6 month, losing my dad unexpectedly, but today I know he was right by my side and had my daughter’s back.

All of these amazing kids will have great choices and will land exactly where they are meant to be.

Updated list:
Accepted: UCLA, UC Davis, UC Irvine UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly SLO, Michigan, Wisconsin, SCU.
WL: UC San Diego

They most likely didn’t calculate the UC values and just put down their regular weighted GPA.

I used UC Weighted GPA calculator posted somewhere in a CC forum. I know that some HS provide weighted GPA on transcript, but not the HS of my D.

He took a combination of lots of AP and IB courses and definitely took the most difficult combination of classes he could at his large SoCal public school. He had special ecs including being an accomplished astrophotographer and creating a Astro related 3d printing business.

So happy for him after the MIT rejection yesterday. He is thrilled!

Accepted also at UCD, SLO, UCSD, Purdue, mines, CU Boulder.
Rejected from GTech, MIT, Caltech
Waiting on USC, Michigan, Berkeley and a few others but don’t think he cares one bit now that he is in at UCLA.

Huge congratulations to all the new Bruins! :bear: :blue_heart: :yellow_heart:

I wanted to recommend that you all connect with the UCLA Parent and Family Association - it is a great resource for newly admitted students and their families as they are making decisions about whether to attend. And I also recommend attending the Bruin Day, which is on April 13th (Saturday). You will get information about it soon (your student will). It is a great opportunity to be on campus, meet other newly admitted students and families, attend some fabulous informational sessions, meet department heads, and get a goods sense of the community. Parent and Family Association - UCLA Alumni

And for parents who want to get involved on campus, consider applying to be on the UCLA Parents’ Council. It is a wonderful organization that gives you a chance to be connected with the university (regardless of where you live) and build your own connections and community on campus. Applications open for that soon,. I’m in my second year on Parents’ Council and it has been an amazing experience. I am happy to answer any questions you have about it (or UCLA). Parent Involvement & Support - UCLA Alumni

Congratulations!

Congrats. Can you please post your stats?

Bummer. My daughter is at Little Tokyo (Los Angeles) this afternoon with friends and she hasn’t texted me yet so part of me thinks she hasn’t seen the update yet or she has but honestly she still has to drive home and I don’t want her angry driving home if she didn’t get in. At least we have SDSU! Did you hear from Cal Poly yet (as of last night my DD still hadn’t heard yet, but kinesiology accepts 75 students based on what I have read so I am not expecting much).

Thank you everyone for posting all the helpful resources to make applying to college a little easier. I originally really wanted to go to UCLA but fell in love with Cal after I took a tour and did research into their EECS program (my major). I just want to let everyone know it all works out in the end, it seems like you will end up where you are meant to be!
