UCLA Class of 2028 Official Thread

You will be able to room together. What hall and room type did you get

I got Hendrick Hall and Classic Triple… they got the same!

Hendrick Hall is bad, the classic Triple in Hendrick Hall is the worst, the room is super tiny, and no AC… Not sure if it’s too late to change.

Omg:sob::sob: how can I request a change?? Is it really that bad

All the “legacy” halls (Dykstra, Sproul, Hedrick, Rieber) are all the same size rooms for double and triple.

Hedrick is “bad” because it is all the way to the top. You will hate the extra walking every day.

Singling out Hedrick to be the “worst” for not having AC and rooms being tiny without saying anything about other legacy dorms is just ignorant.

Being on the top of the hill also means you will get an ocean breeze. As far as I know, unless you are used to having AC in your home that’s on all the time, Westwood doesn’t get THAT hot.

I got off waitlist recently, and submitted my housing app last weekend, what are the chances that I get assigned with my two friends who already have housing assignment in Sproul Hall

Since you live in Los Angeles, if you’re used to the room temp without AC, you should be fine. We live in NorCal, we cannot breathe without AC (from April to late Sept.)

Hedrick is not close to classroom and dinning hall. I see why lots of students invested a E-scooter.

BTW, Hedrick is not worse than the unbrearable WL waiting, you will be fine! :grinning:

Does anyone know when we should expect to be notified of who our roomates are?

Are you just randomly making stuff up? Hedrick has its own dining hall.

UCLA starts school near the end of September. It may be in the 70s-80s for a few weeks and cools down. I had plenty of “no cal” classmates and no body complained about not having AC in the dorms.

I just wanted to add that my son lived in a Hedrick classic triple last year. He had a great time. He didn’t mind the few extra steps to his dorm, and having The Study right at Hedrick is a huge bonus. That was one of his favorite places to eat. He had a fan for the few days in September that were warm. We’re from NorCal and he was just fine. He never complained. The dorm experience is what you make of it with your roommates and new friends. Congrats on your acceptance!

Thank you for your input everyone! Regardless of the housing situation, I’m thankful for my acceptance. I’m sorry if my question caused any trouble in the thread.

@Stacie233 Don’t worry, there is nothing wrong at all with Hedrick:

The Study at Hedrick is a mixed-use environment where students can access a 24-hour study space with a built-in, all-day eatery, open 7:00 a.m. — 2:00 a.m. The Study offers a variety of set-ups including private study carrels, quiet reading rooms, and discussion rooms wired with state-of-the-art technology and writable wall surfaces. With ample natural lighting and comfy lounge seating throughout, free high-speed WiFi, plenty of charging outlets, and a cozy fireplace, The Study’s unique design has already become a favorite with Bruin scholars!

The Study eatery allows students to flex their culinary creativity with many customizable options — including craft-your-own sandwiches, breakfast skillets, salads, pizzas, and more. Other unique offerings include Northern European-inspired fare like crêpes, tartines, and quiches. The Study also features an artisan bakery where breads and pastries are baked fresh daily by skilled pastry chefs, along with handcrafted drinks and kombucha on tap, nitro cold brew coffee, and a convenient Grab & Go marketplace.

Hedrick isn’t the most convenient location but its what you make of it. My S23 lived in a De Neve triple with its own private bathroom. Initially we were happy he didn’t get a classic triple but in hindsight he wishes he did. The classic triples with the shared floor bathrooms tend to be a lot friendlier and social. His floor was not friendly and the sense other friends who didn’t live in classic triples was similar (maybe not as bad as his floor). He ended up hanging out in Hedrick and Sproul more and will live with 2 people he met at Hedrick next year.

The heat isn’t too bad on the Hill and while his room had AC he rarely needed it because of the breeze.

Hedrick is very inconvenient location. But if money is not the problem, then nothing is problem. We saw rental scooters everywhere inside of campus, not sure how much it costs for daily commute? Lots of food places, but not all food places take Bruin meal plans. It could be too far to have lunch at dinning hall before you run for next class.

We’re thinking to invest a scooter. Anyone knows if the renter’s insurance covers the replacement cost if the scooter gets stolen? And How long the claim will take?

Hedrick is fine! One of the more social dorms along with Rieber. All of the dining halls and food options on the hill are just a few minutes apart. The triples are tight on storage but ceilings are high so it doesn’t feel as cramped. Bring a fan & you’ll be good.

You can exchange meal swipes for vouchers that can be used at the ASUCLA restaurants (ie the places at the student union, etc).

Re scooters - buyer beware. People ride them super fast, going wrong way, run the lights and stop signs along the campus loop, hit parked cars & pedestrians, drunkenly fall off … they cause a lot of accidents.

You’re going to love it. You’re going to meet great people, life long friends and have the time of your life. NO AC, cramped dorm rooms and everything else comes with the experience of living in the dorms as a freshman. This is how you want it…18 yr olds can handle anything. You’re going to UCLA! That is all .

S18 opted to stay in a classic triple for sophomore year as well. The one thing he did consider to be important was being on the north side of the building. A friend who had a south facing room had a lovely view of the ocean but could rarely take advantage of it since the curtains were kept closed to block the sun.

Hedrick hall is a… unique experience if you take advantage of it

If you try to make friends it is by far the best freshman dorm, otherwise it SUCKS

Take this from a former Hedrick classic resident

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a response for the CAR form?

I’m trying to switch from my Deluxe Triple at De Neve to a Deluxe Triple at Sproul Landing to be with my roommate, so I’m curious to see if there’s any timeline for a decision.
