Does anyone know how roommate assignments work when coming off waitlist? Everyone like has housing, but I don’t and I am not sure if I can like join a roommate group and get their housing
Once you receive your housing offer you will know the building and room type and can then use that information to form or join a roommate group - all roommates have to have the same building and room type to form a group. There should be plenty of time still - they send out the actual roommate assignment notifications much later in the summer.
My understanding is that Parent Orientation is seperate from Freshman Orientation. New student orientation is necessary as they can meet advisors and register classes during he first pass. Not sure what is Parent Orientation for? Parents are not allowed to stay with their students, I don’t see any value.
Just a quick question: If the course he took at commuity college is not UC transferable, does the bad grade still matter? In other words, will only grades earned from UC transferable courses be on the UC transcript or everything?
If it’s not UC transferrable, there will be no credit and no notation on the actual UCLA transcript. However, if he took other classes that are UC transferrable, those will still show up along with the same notation that he attended community college for those terms.
None of these will affect his UCLA grades.
The only times these grades will matter (if they do) is when he applies to grad schools and will need to submit all transcripts for all college work attempted/completed.
Thanks for your response, we didn’t know the grad schools consider the credits earned from community college. My nephew received B for a non-transferable course last week, all courses he took at CC are not UC transferable. If he didn’t report those courses on his application, then I don’t think he needs to send his CC transcript.
deleted.
Thanks for the reminder. He only took 4 courses at non-CA CC (He’s OOS), he didn’t receive the bonus points for the courses, so he doesn’t need to send his CC transcript.
I didn’t mean that he will hide his CC transcript from grad school later. Your paragraph #2 is unnecessary, not applicable to his situation!
Not sure how to reconcile this info.
Not trying to turn this into anything. I guess you have all the info you need.
My daughter’s housing offer is a triple in Saxon suites. Seems great for the living room, but she’s pretty shy and I think would really benefit from the open-door college dorm experience. These seem a bit off by themselves, open to the outside and maybe have a lot more sophomores and juniors too. Wondering if she should file for a change after she accepts. Does anyone have experience with freshmen in Saxon?
It’s my understanding that all transcripts with official grades from high schools and colleges attended need to be reported. Not just those that are transferable. I would encourage you to ask them directly.
Thank you for sharing this comprehensive information, @Gumbymom and @lkg4answers! Understanding the criteria and nuances of the UC admissions process, especially for UCLA, is crucial for prospective applicants. Your insights on GPA, application essays, and major-specific considerations are invaluable. Best wishes to all aspiring Bruins as they embark on their application journey!
Hi there,
If the student has taken IB High Level Math AA and scored a 7 on the indicative score, they typically may not need to take the Math Diagnostic Test. However, it’s best to confirm with the specific institution’s admissions office or check their official requirements to be certain.
Thanks!
We attended new parent orientation last year since we are OOS and had to get our daughter anyway. I found it informative . Most of the info is probably online but this saved me some time searching online . Plus, we walked the campus which was lovely. The talks / meetings were all optional so you attend any session of your choosing.
We won’t attend this year since we are familiar already but hey if you aren’t from the area might as well go!
If students were admitted from the waitlist and form a roommates group with someone who already has housing, will we receive the same housing offer? I don’t have a housing offer, but my roommates do, but I am in the same roommate group as them.
This will depend on the preferences you listed for room type on your housing application. In order to join a roommate group within the housing portal you have to have been assigned the same building and room type. If you did not list the same order of preferences for room type in your housing application, it’s not likely you will randomly end up in the same building. But most freshmen, waitlisted or not, end up in classic triples. If you all listed that as your first choice you’ll have a better shot at ending up together.
Once you receive your housing offer you need to accept it (even if it’s not what you want) and then you can try to submit a CAR to switch.
And if all else fails, there is a window of time in the fall where people can do mutual room swaps over a period of a few days which happens early that quarter.
Heard a UCLA Alum Nostalgic Song UCLA Alum Nostalgic Song
Hope all of you will enjoy it as well!
My spouse and I attended the parents’ orientation last year and found it to be informative and a positive experience.
The presentations by the heads of police, emergency response, and dean of students were particularly informative for us.
The first half of the day covered university life including a panel with three current students and in-depth info about university academic functions/processes (everything from how quarters differ from semesters to the registration process). My spouse and I work (or have worked) in higher ed for years so much of the info was intuitive for us, however, I’m glad we went and got specific info about UCLA from those making the school run. I found the Q and A portions of sessions immensely helpful (lots of opportunities at the end of each presentation to ask questions and benefit from good questions from other parents).
In the afternoon, presenters went into the weeds of the health insurance options, how to access the Ashe Center and mental health resources, how law enforcement and emergency response works on campus, the move-in process and random housing topics, amongst other useful topics. I felt the whole day was very professionally operated. At the end of the day, reps from different campus service units (housing, disability office, etc) were available to talk one-on-one. The parents’ orientation and 3-day student orientation end at the same time so parents can pick up their kids. Just a warning, communication with the orientation schedule and other relevant info wasn’t sent until the night before the event (strange choice in my opinion).
For students that were recently admitted off of the waitlist, how did u access the pre-orientation planner and where did u reserve and orientation date? Also how were u able to submit immunization records?
Hey everyone! I have a question regarding the housing contract, if anyone could provide some insight. So I received my housing offer yesterday, and while I was added to a group by two of my other friends, it lists my Room Assignment as “To Be Assigned.” I just want to make sure… as long as I have been added to the group along with my other two friends, I will be fine? All 3 of our housing offers were in the same Building and Room Type.
