UCLA Class of 2030 Official Thread

Hello prospective Bruins!

It’s that time of year again as the UC application has now opened and submission starts October 1 through December 1 for this admissions cycle. I am @Gumbymom one of the two UC Forum Champions/Moderators. My Co-Forum Champion is @lkg4answers and we are knowledgeable on the increasingly complicated UC admissions process and hopefully we can help any prospective UC applicants with their questions.

UCLA like all the UC’s are test blind and will use 13 areas of criteria to review Freshman applicants. Each campus will weight the various areas of criteria differently so one size does not fit all. The UC application website has plenty of information that can help determine if UCLA is a good option when applying.

Freshman Applicants

UCLA considers all 3 UC GPA’s but the emphasis is on the Unweighted and Fully Weighted UC GPA’s.

2025 Freshman (First year profile) 25th-75th percentile:

Capped weighted UC GPA: 4.20-4.30

Freshman admit rate: 9.4%

**UCLA has not yet released the Unweighted or Weighted Uncapped GPA data for their Class of 2029 (2025 Freshman) but I will update this post with that information once it is available.

UCLA Freshman major admission information:

For the College of Letters and Science, the applicant’s major is not considered during the review process.

The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science admits students by declared major, with more emphasis on science and math programs.

The School of Nursing also places more emphasis on science and math programs and requires the submission of an additional supplemental application.

The School of the Arts and Architecture; Herb Alpert School of Music; and the School of Theater, Film and Television admit students by declared major (within the school), and put more emphasis on special talents through a review of portfolios and/or auditions, which are the most significant admission factors for these schools.

UCLA only guarantees review of an applicant’s first-choice major.

UCLA typically does not admit to the alternate major.

Selective majors include all majors in the Professional colleges along with the College of Engineering.

UCLA has a 4 year housing guarantee if the student meets the priority deadlines.

Interesting. For Class 2025, 1517 got off from waitlist at UCLA, and 0 got off from UC Berkeley.

For the last 4 years, UCLA has consistently admitted more waitlisted students than UC Berkeley. Other than in 2023 for UC Berkeley, their Freshman waitlist admit numbers have been below 50 students but 0 is not common.
