@carmen2098 California is on an indefinite stay-at-home order as of yesterday. Any open house will likely be virtual. :frowning:

@WhimsicalSquid true… do we still get an invitation though? Has anyone gotten one yet? This whole coronavirus situation is crazy…

@carmen2098 I’d hope they’d still send an invite and try to make something special! Good luck and stay sane and healthy!

@WhimsicalSquid Thanks! Good luck to you too and stay safe!

results? did you guys get in? I didn’t:((

I’m so sorry, @anonymous5583. My daughter was waitlisted - probably the same thing in the end. :frowning:

@scubaboulder I might be wrong, they really only train tour guides on L&S and engineering admissions.

I got rejected :frowning: I’m so sad since I thought I had a good chance because I won Honorable mention for National YoungArt’s design this year idk im just so sad and heartbroken

@10s4life Our tour guide gave the same info as ScubaBoulder’s. If DMA wants you based on your portfolio and the rest of your app, you only have to meet the minimum stats. I believe it’s the same for any visual or performing arts (portfolio or audition). Of course that shouldn’t be misinterpreted as an easy in; DMA is one of the most competitive admissions in the school.

@njfdis9 I’m really sorry. It’s so rough. Be kind to yourself.

I am a transfer applicant, and i’m so worried about the results! but if I don’t get in, I don’t get in…??‍♀️ right now I’m waiting for the invitation to open house, although I am not sure if they’re even going to do it.

@carmen2098 Did you apply to any other schools? I applied to UCSB and UCI for art but really only did it ‘just because’. I’ve been attached to the idea of the DMA program and the school itself that I can’t really see myself in any other spot. Because I’m already a transfer student, I would see my best option as taking another year of cc filled with design and art classes, then try my luck at UCLA again, though just the thought of it sounds so dreadful, especially since I think that I’ve put a lot into school work and my portfolio.

I also applied to UCSC! If I don’t get into UCLA then I am planning on going to CSUN.

@WhimsicalSquid congrats to your child for at least being waitlisted! I think that is an accomplishment in itself, since the acceptance rate is only 5%. My son unfortunately was rejected. It’s crushing because so much info out there indicates there is a correlation to the Alumni Scholarship invite and acceptance, and we knew acceptance into SAA is different from the other schools/colleges on campus. I kinda wish my son had chosen Art instead of DMA as his major. His choice was a fluke, as he didn’t really think too hard about which one to select when he filled out his application, and chose DMA because he thought he’d try ‘design’, but I think the admit rate for Art isn’t as unforgiving as DMA. His strength is much more in studio art than anything else. By the time I realized he’d chosen DMA, it was too late to change it on the app…

@scubaboulder Oh, that’s frustrating. I’m sorry. Re Alumni, it would seem there was definitely a lower correlation this year with that “greater number” of invites being sent out - I just wish we hadn’t been the first year, with such high hopes based on the past! It’s so hard letting go of that dream school, but here’s hoping both of ours find their best place.

I am also a transfer applicant! Has anyone received or heard of anyone receiving the invitation to the open house yet? Considering all that’s going on, they may do a virtual open house. Was just wondering if there’s been word of anyone receiving the invitation yet! I’ve seen in the other forums that they usually come out right around now. I’m nervous to not have heard anything yet!

@TeamCanelo Hey! I am a transfer applicant and I haven’t received the invitation yet  I don’t even know if they’re going to even do the open house.

@TeamCanelo From what I’ve read, the open house just sounds like a little get together/tour for a few transfers and faculty members so they’re most likely not going have it this year. But if you don’t get one anyway, there’s still a chance that you were accepted.

I applied to DMA as a transfer!! I’m currently going to a 4-year college but I really don’t like it here…it sucks having to wait so long to hear back from UCLA, especially since I can’t start planning stuff like housing and internships for the next school year until I know where I’ll be.

I feel like I don’t have much of a chance but at the same time I feel like my portfolio isn’t bad… I have no idea what they’re looking for.

Regardless, good luck to everyone!! We’re in this together ?
