what’s all this i hear about engineering counselors telling first year engineers to take 5 classes for the winter quarter? (i’m a freshman myself)…what’s this class that everyone is being told to tack on?

Hi everyone , I am new to this website, also UCLA

I was planning on my next quarter schedule
this is what I hav so far
Engr 183 // CS M51A // EE 102

Can you guys give me some suggestions that I can take? Btw , I m CS&E.

Thanks

seems like a relaxing/decent schedule.

engr183: you’ll be writing a lot
csm51a: depends on your professor (who are you planning on taking?) a pretty introductory class to circuit design
ee102: mostly calculus and algebra (i’m taking it now so i haven’t finished it yet…)

since you’re new to the school, it might be a pretty good schedule to get you used to the UCLA system. but you could also add another course if needed/have a lot of time next quarter.

hey everyone… Winter 09 will be my first quarter at UCLA as a junior transfer… just went through the schedule and wondered whether the following schedule will work or not,
MECH&AE 101
MECH&AE 103
MECH&AE 105A
MECH&AE 182A

I might have to remove one as i’ll have 3 ‘discussions’ [what are they exactly? are they mandatory?] on friday.
Any suggestions on the schedule?

ch2la,

Your plan schedule seems fine. The MAE 103 is the hardest of the four classes you listed. You should consider taking three classes your first quarter so that you can adjust to UCLA and the quarter system. However, you can enroll in all four classes and see how it goes, and you can drop one if you feel you need to.

Discussions are TA classes. The TA will review what was covered in lecture, and you can ask additional questions there. Some TA’s cover material similar to the homework, or give answers to the homework. Discussions are not mandatory, and you’re usually allowed to attend another section if you choose to. However, you’ll probably have to attend the discussion section you’re enrolled in if you are given quizzes during a discussion section.

MAE 101: easy, statics.
MAE 103: I heard it was hard.
MAE 105A: depends on the professor, medium difficulty
MAE 182A: Diff. Eqns.

GrassPuppet–> thanks a lot, that was really helpful.

CS M51A - i forgot the name of prof , but he s the one wrote textbook

Is there any suggestion for more CS classes to take , i m now looking into CS 161 or EE103

ooo…Ercegovac. i didn’t have him but i didn’t hear good things about him. i don’t suggest ee103 because it’s one of the harder EE courses

dude, you double posted…

I guess haterofhater hates me now. -_-

chiajasper,

Why not take EE 110 or EE 115A?

I’m trying to arrange my schedule for winter quarter and so far I have lots of questions.
For CS32, I want to take Nachenberg instead of Smallberg because I attended a seminar and Nachenberg was pretty awesome. Smallberg is good but he puts me to sleep lol.
For English Comp3, which prof do you guys recommend?
For Math 31B, Brown or Houdayer?
For Physics 1A, Corbin or Zocchi? I heard you learn a LOT with Corbin and Zocchi is just too easy.

oh dang, i didn’t even notice!!

and yeah, nachenberg is the best professor i’ve ever had.

MAE 101: 4/10
MAE 103: 8/10
MAE 105A: 7/10
MAE 182A: 8/10*

All depends on how well you want to learn the material, and how much you will understand the material. *MAE 182A has very difficult ODEs and difficult homeworks. If you thought the course was easy, then you either had the solutions manual or didn’t really understand the concepts (you just followed steps to an example and repeated them in homeworks and exams).

Luckily, you will get a break because it seems like at least a third of the class doesn’t know what is going on, so the cutoff for an A is just proficient knowledge of the course material.

Fluids is tough too, but not too bad. You’ll learn more about engineering … not just finding variables and plugging in values.

OR you’re just that ****ing smart!

Why not take EE 110 or EE 115A?

uhm since I havnt meet the pre-re for it. EE10 , I believed?
I was going to take it , but it s conflict with engr183.

just curious, How to quote people’s post?
I tried to do it , but it doesnt work.

Thanks.

ANSWER: [BB Code](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/misc.php?do=bbcode)

Hi I have no idea about how anything works and which classes are hard. I’m a first year EE major

How is this courseload for winter?

math32b
math33a
physics1b
comsci 31

if this means anything math 32a is fairly easy for me… took physics C with 5 on both mech and e/m so would physics 1b be difficult?

Thanks
