The TA for 180 should be awesome.

hi im a first year electrical engineering. i failed cs the first time i took it so im retaking it in my spring quarter. is this schedule too much ?
Math 32B
Physics 4AL
CS31
Math 33A or should i switch 33A with a GE ?

Thanks

i would say take 33A and save the GE for a quarter with harder schedule… 4AL is time consuming but not hard at all and don’t really need to study for as much… cs31 should be much easier 2nd time around (although it doesn’t seem that hard as im taking it now) and 32B is just a lot of formulas and tedious integration… but your schedule isn’t that bad at all…

as an added remark … has anyone taken math 33A with Laub yet ? i heard its bad but can i get some other opinions ?

I had him last year and his lectures could get confusing at times, especially if you’re not familiar with his notation. He’s really application-oriented and sometimes skips or moves too quickly through some things he thinks are basic.

One thing about him is that he’ll never make you do anything that takes a long time to do on paper. We essentially skipped Gram-Schmidt method, which people who’ve taken 33A say is a real pain. So you won’t have to waste time learning things that you may never use again.

His exams are relatively easy and my TA was good, so I did pretty well.

Summary: If you need to take him, find the best TA, and go to his office before midterms.

laub is the worst professor i’ve ever had in my life, actually.

How much time are you spending on projects, and what are the averages on the exams this quarter?

probably like 12 hours or on the last 2 projects, prolly shorter for the ones before that… and average for midterm was 58 lol yay for not taking it with cs majors? for our project 3 the average was 41 out of 100 and 1 out of 60 for test cases LOL

WTH ? your average was 58 ??? OMG fall quarter average was like 80 something…

and for LAUB , who is the best TA ? i was looking around and everyone mentions thats his TAs are bomb, but which ones ?

Re: CS 31
I vaguely recall someone saying the fall average was more like mid-70’s. Anyway, are the tests comparable? One was written by Smallberg and one by Rohr, so the styles are probably different. I assume your astonishment is because you think your score in the fall would have earned you a better grade in winter. But that’s a common freshman fallacy; you wouldn’t have gotten the same score. The reality is that if the tests are that different between quarters, you probably would have gotten a worse score on the winter test.

If I got a 4 on the AP English Language and Composition test, does that mean I’m done with english if I go to UCLA or ?

Also, do my Stats/US History AP tests count for anything if i got 4’s on them as well?

yeah i looked at last quarters midterm and it was a bit easier in my opinion… and rohr’s questions are definitely a bit harder than smallberg’s

A 4 on AP Lit means you meet the Writing 1 requirement. You still have to take a course that covers the Writing 2 requirement but that’s integrated with one of your other courses. Stats and APUSH just give you general credits that allow you to reach sophomore status faster.

for MAE 101, did anyone use the study guide and CD?

just for more feedback

mrasianboie, that schedule is fine. No need to switch out 33A.

You should see the average scores for the projects and homework for CS32 this quarter… avg is 90, worst case is around 80+

That seems fairly close to the scores last year except for project 4 where the median score was 54/100.

Is UCLA engineering harder than other UC engineering programs?
how is the situation for transfers? Do most transfers have issues transferring or is it a smooth transition from a CC?
