ucla engineering is no where close to Berkeley’s engineering scool. don’t know about other UC schools

Who’s the TA?

my TA for cs180 was aaron cote. one of the best TAs i’ve had so far (after tim dasilva)

is there that big of a gap between UCLA engineering and berkeley engineering? i hope i don’t regret picking ucla over cal later on then =.= although i still think ranking isn’t the most important factor to decide on which college to go to…

any way to transfer into UCLA engineering?? from undeclared?

yeah just apply to HSSEAS…

no like is it possible to switch after being accepted. cause i think i might wanna do engineering instead of something else…and it would be within a diff college in LA yes?

Yes, but you have to send a petition in with the necessary paperwork and hope it gets approved. You can see more details at the following link:
[HSSEAS OASA | Change of Major](http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/current/change.html)

If you are an incoming freshman I’ve heard there’s something you can do to change from L&S to HSSEAS during orientation but don’t know the specifics. There’s probably some more talk about in somewhere in this forum. If you can’t find it you should just ask your counselor during orientation.

i think you can apply for the change during orientation and they’ll decide whether to take you based on your highschool stats… after that you can apply in the end of first year where they look at your 1st year stats…

How do you know? You haven’t taken any courses yet …

Yes … and there is a gap in the workload/intensity/difficulty between UCLA and certain schools in the Midwest and East Coast. They are in class more … they have longer problem sets … you may feel like you’re suffering at UCLA but it may be worse at other schools.

No CDs or software were required for any MAE courses except heat transfer (105D/131A). The study guide is supplementary, for reviews and extra problems worked out.

The soonest you can petition to change to the school of engineering is the beginning of fall quarter. They will base it off your high school stats; that’s what I did, and they wanted to see my fall quarter in addition. So I was accepted beginning of winter quarter

I was accepted to EE HSSEAS, but Now I realize there is a CSE ( Which is what I’m actually interested in since it involves computers and not just EE by itself, is it difficult to make this switch?)

Yeah Im trying to change from L&S to engineering. Is this feasible?

Read the replies about 5 posts above yours.

^ No, that is too far up the page…

No

Can someone please tell me how is EE in UCLA? Like I guess, compared to other engineering majors (bio eng, etc) or to EE at UC Berkeley…

I can’t decide whether I want to stay computer engineering or go straight EE. The only CE class ive taken that isnt needed for straight EE is CS35L. What do you guys think about the usefulness of one pathway compared to the other?

Does anyone have the ratings for all the required EE courses? I’m a first year EE and pretty mcuh will be done with all the premajor work by Spring 09. Taking EE1 next quarter. I want to know so I can play my future schedule accordingly. Thanks ! =D

How often can we relax or have time off to socialize in EE
i mean like join sports, hang out, party etc

That will be a hard question to answer since no one will have experience with both to make a good comparison. However, people seem to agree that Berkeley is more intense.

Why don’t you just do straight EE with the CS technical breadth? Stick with EE if you’re planning on going into industry after graduating because there are more jobs for EE. Choose whichever you like most.

There was a ratings of some sort done by Citan a couple of pages back within in this thread. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION.

The difficulty will vary depending on who you take the classes with. For example, if you take EE 115A: Pamarti vs. Razavi. Pamarti will be a lot more difficult. Your best bet would be to talk to some upperclassmen rather than on this forum.

That will depend on how naturally smart you are compared to your classmates, and what kind of grades you’ll be satisfied with. Some people spend a lot of hours studying just to earn a B because they just don’t understand it. Others are able to cram before an exam and manage to do above average. In any case, you should have enough time to socialize.
