Don’t get discouraged if you don’t have a high GPA (<3.0) because some professor do take students with low GPAs. You just need to show some initiative, ambition and work hard. After all, a high GPA does not necessarily mean you will be a good researcher.

What happens if you are enrolled in a course for which you have not filled a specific requirement? Do they kick you out or can you go ahead and take it?

Do engineering majors have to compulsarily choose english at ucla?? If yes, then shall i appear for AP English inorder to reduce workload in college. PLEASE REPLY

I am an aerospace engineering student. Presently I will be appearing for Calculus BC, Physics C (Mechanics & E&M), Chemistry. Kindly add any additional subject which I should give to get credit or remove the subject in which i will not receive any type of credit. Thanks

Okay, things are bit complicated when you’re talking about AP credit since it depends on your school (in your case HSSEAS) and possible career goals.

If you plan ever to be premed, you can’t use AP credit to fulfill class requirements for med school. So if you want to use AP credit to get out of Chem 20A (which is required for the AE major), it would allow you to get your undergrad degree but med school will not accept it.

AP classes that would actually get you out of classes/requirements:
Any AP English class (Lit OR Lang works)
3 or higher get you out of Entry-level writing class / having to take Eng placement exam
4 or 5 gets you out of above AND having to take Eng Comp 3 (aka Writing I requirement)

AP Calculus AB
5 gets you out of Math 31A (Derivatives + ?)

AP Calculus BC
4 gets you out of Math 31A
5 gets you out of Math 31A AND Math 31B (Integrals +other)

AP Physics C
4 or 5 … not really sure about this but the catalog says you “may petition for Physics 1A”, which I’m taking to mean that you can TRY to pass out of that class, but there’s no guarantee. By my guess, if you REALLY need to know this stuff for your major, they’re probably not gonna let you get out of it.

AP Chemistry
4 or 5 “May petition for Chem 20A”
(Sidenote: One of the biggest regrets of my freshman life so far by not passing out of this class. Chem 20A has almost nothing to do with AP Chem. AP Chem is more like Chem 20B. I was taking it to really “know” chem… xD Let’s just say, I don’t care much about that anymore… Hated Chem 20A. Loved 20B though. /rant)

All AP classes give you “unassigned” credit so long as you get a 3 or higher. But out of the list you gave me, the above WITH those scores will actually get you out of having to take certain classes. (Check page 19-20 of the pdf file) Just realize though, that when you skip classes, you may have not learned things as thoroughly as you should have, so don’t get overconfident (one of the greatest downfalls of a good student).

I’m not sure what you mean by “extra credit”… but if you passed the Physics B exam with a 3 or higher you get 4 unassigned credits.

Unassigned credits are basically useless other than when you sign up for classes because they can boost your class standing. The higher your class standing, the sooner you get to sign up for classes.

(With the exception of when you first sign up for classes during Orientation. If you do attend, sign up for the EARLY SESSIONS. If sign up opens at 9am, you better beg and cry to your teachers to use the computer so you can be there at 9am exactly to sign up. Last year, when I signed up for orientation, I was there at 9am exactly when sign ups opened, and about 15-25 minutes later, the first second and fourth sessions were already full. No joke.)

45 credits = sophomore (lol, I had just barely enough when I entered. 45.5. xD )
90 = junior
(i don’t know senior for sure, but it’s probably 135 if there’s a pattern.)

does anyone know when the next Raytheon info session is? I contacted a couple UCLA alumni who now work at raytheon and they mentioned at the time that raytheon would have an info session soon, but when I asked the exact date, they didn’t respond. Do you guys know when the next info session is for the other aerospace/defense companies?

^ I haven’t seen any fliers, but I haven’t been paying attention either. You can see who is giving info sessions through the Career Center by logging into BruinView and clicking “Events and Workshops” or “Calendar” I didn’t see them listed there.

hey incoming engineering student at ucla (im undeclared and planning on taking engineering 98 in the fall)
but could someone please rank the engineering majors by popularity, by difficulty, and by like national ranking (ie usnews)
