There are 2. If you’re in a triple you can rent a hub for free.

or set up a wireless router, if you have one

No big deal, but this question would be more suited for the “ucla bar” thread than the flopsy thread.

Hey, all. I’m an incoming engineering freshman, and I got a 5 on the AP Calc AB test. Would you recommend that I take math 31A or 31B?

From what I’ve heard, I want to avoid Biskup. I had a teacher last year who sounds like him, and basically, all I did was math that semester. I’d prefer to not have to go through that again. While we’re at it, how are Watson and Rothschild, who are both teaching 31B this upcoming quarter?

EDIT: Also, I got a 5 on AP Chem. Which chemistry course should I enroll in? I checked this link:
[AP Credit - School of Engineering and Applied Science - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/APCreditEN.htm)
but it just says “General” under 5 for AP Chem. Does that mean I enroll in 20A, or what?

Thanks :)

Sadly, I’m on two waitlists this quarter in M51A (CS) and in Eng 183 (ethics course). Should I expect to get off these waitlists, or is that not a safe bet?

^
I’m in waitlist for M51A too, what’s your waitlisted position, mine is 4/6

Um, it’s says “held” next to the lecture, and W/4 next to the discussion. So I guess I’m fourth on the waitlist for my discussion.

What is the approx. workload (in hours/week) of CS 35L? Thank you!

just don’t tell anyone who got you the job. people will respond as “oh ”

haha, you are right. seems like a lot of people nowaday get internships/jobs from resumes being passed along by relatives/parents/friends.

no kidding. i was having lunch with some interns and they all seem to have gotten the job through a relative. they were all surprised that i got the job just by applying online and interviewing.

i thought less of them afterwards.

Hi flopsy, I’m a senior in high school and is interested in going to med school.
But of the 9 majors in UCLA Engineering, I only see Bioengineering but can’t spot Biomedical Engineering. Question: Is there even a Biomedical Engineering major in UCLA? Or is it that Bioengineering itself covers Biomedical Engineering?
Because from what I know, Bioengineering is more of an agricultural study, which I prefer less.
I do hope I can study Biomedical Engineering in UCLA:(

Oh by the way, since you said bioengineering is one of the most competitive major,
would it increase my chance in getting into UCLA if I chose major undecided, rather than
specifically choosing bioengineering? Just a thought :D

There is a biomedical option through the EE major. I believe the only change is that you take the Life Science classes and the O-chem classes instead of some circuits and programming classes.

no.

It’s my understanding that GPA is very important for med school admissions so I don’t see why you should do engineering. It’s not impossible, but it’s not easy for most people.

^Thanks for the good suggestion. I see now that Biomedical engineering is way too burdensome for me.

Anybody know anything about CS118? Is it a hard/time consuming? Also, I have only taken CS31 and 32, but I got an A in both; how important are CS 33, 35L and 111 to the course?

It doesn’t matter which order you take 111/118 in.

Just because Materials Engineering isn’t big, that doesn’t mean its not strong does it?

And how strong is ChemE?

And how DO YOU have a good social life as an engineer? I mean, whats the fraternitie he was talking about on the first page? Can’t you still have friends, go to sports games and whatnot? What does he mean by no, you can’t have a social life, are you kidding me?

Has anyone here taken EE10 with Abidi?

I’ll be taking that this Fall, and I’m confused about how long that class really is…
Ok, so the course info states “Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour;” but
the schedule of classes lists MW 2:00 - 3:50pm, which would add to 4 hours of lecture.

Do you think the registrar page made a mistake? or is this how Professor Abidi wants it?

I’ll be commuting next quarter so it’ll be very helpful for me to know when I’ll be going back home… Thanks for any info!

Not EE10, but EE 115B. Read what they say on BruinWalk about him.

He will be a hard professor to take it with, but you will learn a lot more than with others. He will teach circuits from a conceptual stand point and he will teach you the intuitive approach rather than just simple mundane analysis. His idea is that he is trying to teach his students to become designers rather than glorified technicians.

Honestly, I would take him for EE10 and continue on with him throughout the circuits pathway. I would not take him for EE 115A/B without taken him in the pre-req. classes. Better yet, I would not enroll in his classes but I would attend them.

If GPA is important then don’t take him, and wait.

I think Abidi might have changed it. I remember it was a 1.5 hours each lecture when I took EE 110. Does that extra 30 minutes really matter?

thanks arklogic, well then how important is it to take cs 33 and/or cs35L before cs118?
