Grad schools don’t actually recruit for specific majors in engineering. They just come to grad school fairs in Ackerman Union and advertise their engineering schools as a whole, rather than specific departments.

Hm… I don’t know. I need to find my balance.

I’m taking an intro to CS at a community college (GCC) this summer, so that’ll hopefully help me decide more specifically what I want to go into.

Thanks, and sorry one more thing - how difficult would it be to switch from Materials Engineering into MechE or EE? I believe they’re both impacted majors at UCLA?

neither are impacted. only BioE is, if anything. you fill out a form, write a short paragraph, and wait two weeks.

EE isn’t impacted anymore?

To ChE majors…
Is it ok to take ChE 109 without good knowledge of Mathlab? I have never learned Matlab before.

hey flopsy, for physics 4al there are no textbooks listed, does this just mean come to class and then they’ll tell us what we need for labs?

also how time consuming and difficult would you say 4al is?

and if you want to, can you rank my spring schedule difficulty?: cs33, physics 4al, physics 1b, and math 33a :)

thanks!

Physics 4AL doesn’t have a textbook; all the documentation is posted online or distributed as handouts. It’s a 3/10 on difficulty. Your Spring schedule, however, is a 8/10 on difficulty.

Hi Flopsy,
My daughter was admitted to the UCLA mechanical engineering. Her goal is to become an imagineer for Disney. In thinking, she is considering ME as a major and minoring in computer science. Is this possible at UCLA and what do you think about her major for imagineering? Or should she be in computer science as a major, how difficult is it to switch, and when could she switch if she wanted to?

Thanks

You can’t minor in an HSSEAS field like Computer Science, although there’s nothing stopping her from taking Computer Science courses if she doesn’t mind graduating in five years. Walt Disney Imagineering is so interdisciplinary that either major would work. They hire majors from not only Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, but also Architecture, Film, and very specialized niche fields such as Audio Engineering.

^ she could just focus her technical breadth on CS

i was admitted as l&s, but now i want to switch to an engineering major (mechanical probably). can i apply for change at orientation? i heard you can apply before you start taking classes; where does it say this? (on the site it says you can only apply to transfer after taking several classes at ucla) i am not certain whether or not i am qualified enough to get in, so how should i go about choosing fall classes?

flopsy if we payed the $5 for ESUC membership like in the fall but never picked our membership card are we still in ESUC?

because I got like one email after I sent in the $5 but have never received an email from them after and I’m wondering if I’d have to repay the 5 dollars to become a member again

How did the ESUC officers take your $5 without giving you a membership card? You can determine whether you’re an ESUC member by asking the officer(s) in the ESUC lounge to look up your name on the Excel spreadsheet that they have.

Drop by the ESUC lounge during one of the office hours. The Spring hours has not been created yet - it will be finished tomorrow.

You were supposed to receive a card when you paid. I believe if you didn’t receive one (I assume you paid during a general meeting), you should have come back another day at one of the office hours.

Still, your email should have been added to the mailing list. PM me who you paid and I will see if I can take care of it.

Heard Orkoulas just slaughtered a lot of the CH ENG 102B students on first day. I remember some friends of mine fell asleep and were marking each other with like hearts, checks and X’s to make sure you don’t fall asleep. Good times.

1)would it be bad for me to take CS 33 at a community college?

2)how easy is it to transfer the grade (not just the credits) from summer school at a non-UC uni (like santa clara uni) to ucla?

3)whats the difference between EE1 and physics 1c?

Flopsy -

I was admitted to Biochemistry major at L&S. i am considering changing to bioengineering. i will be pre-med and intend to go to med school. is this a wise decision?

am regents btw.

I don’t think either major will have an advantage in medical school admissions, if that’s what you’re asking.

sorry if this question has already been asked, but this thread is 127 pages long

If I were to major in, say, mechanical engineering, would I be able to have a life? About how much time do engineering majors spend on homework and studying?
