UCLA equivalent?

Well, I’m not sure what kind of discussion this will generate, but the other day, a friend kind of angered me because he said NU was the equivalent of NU (and his sources, by the way, are UCLA alumi). I live in the LA area, and while I acknowledge that UCLA is a great school, I personally don’t see it measuring up to NU. Seriously, I just think it’s because it’s LA and nobody here really knows NU well. I mean, Asian parents around here, including my dad, assume UCLA to be second to none—well, second to Harvard (because that’s the only school they know).

Maybe I’m dellusional, but for those who applied and/or attend, how would your rank UCLA in comparison to NU?

NU - 12
UCLA - 25

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/natudoc/tier1/t1natudoc_brief.php

I would say they’re both great schools. NU is ranked higher than UCLA but rankings aren’t everything.

Hah, that’s so stereotypical. My mom was talking to her friend in LA whose son wants to go to UCLA, which they think is like the ****, and she had no idea about NU either. Not many people apply to UCs around here, so most of us regard UCLA and Berkeley as merely good state schools and we assume that they aren’t too difficult to get into if you’re in-state. I wish Asian people would actually look at the rankings just to get an idea of where colleges stand.

Just another example of ignorant UC obsessionists

that is such a random comparison, they are both my top choices though
