UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

tbh…the only chancing advice I would believe in is if it came from an official UCLA admissions officer.
UCLA 2018 CS admission stats. 1502 applied. 114 admitted. 7.58% admissions rate.

EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE. So until the 2019 stats are released. You can interpret your own chances from that.

Every UCLA application and applicant has its own variables… Good luck though.

hi guys,
im a student at deanza college; will be applying in fall 2019 and transferring in fall 2020.
what are my chances as a cs major assuming if I dont get an internship?

@JustTakeMe yes every application and applicant has its own variables, but I think chancing is really useful prior to submitting apps though. So since he has a year to prepare. asking for people to chance him could actually be beneficial and useful…

anyone from the bay area going to the bruin bound bay area transfer reception on May 4th?

Anyone know when housing offers come out?

@americajm I am from San Jose but I am waiting for the confirmation if my admission is still ok after I dropped one class of IGETC. I do not want to drive a long way, book hotel and later they say my admission is rescinded.

idk if this is a stupid question but the transcripts we have to send, can we have the colleges we attended send them electronically to them or does it have to be like an actual paper copy?

@sallykim Depends on your college. If they have that connection with UCLA, they will send electronically. If not, your college will send it by mail. Because every college joins the different system to send the transcript electronically.

@Bibihcmvn so if they send it by mail, do you know approximately how long that would take? i want to wait till after bruin day to make my decision and i don’t want to risk not making the deadline

Hi guys! So I got accepted already but there was one class that I had to drop and get a W because I was having issues with my professor. I am a 4.0 student and have never had issues with a professor like this before. Ive also never had a W either. He is extremely sexist, egotistical, etc. and I felt that I was being graded unfairly. I decided to drop his class and get the W to avoid a C or possibly a D, and I was able to find another online class to take instead that will still be finished by the end of the Spring 2019 semester so that I have my 60 transferrable units. it also wasn’t a class that I needed to transfer. My transfer counselor at my junior college said it was fine but now I am worried that they might withdraw my application. Let me know what you guys think please!

@salllykim I’m worried for the same thing

@sallykim Depend on your school. Here is my case. Because I read a lot of people shared experiences that their admissions were rescinded as the UC never received their transcripts, but the students are accountable for that issue even though they could prove by the receipt that they did request the CCC to send it out. So I decided that I ordered one official transcript for me to pick up plus one mailed directly to the UC. My school usually send it in the next business day, so I will wait about 2 weeks to call the UC admission (the mail itself may take up to 1 week, and the UC needs time to open letters and work on documents for each student). In case they still not receive it, I will send the official transcripts that I have by USPS First Priority required signature when delivered. By that, I can make sure that the UC will receive my transcripts on time, before the due date.

@uclabby Just report that change to UC admission and be calm to wait for their decision. But I believe you would be fine. Because I dropped one class in the middle of March for a similar reason and reported in TAU, but I still got accepted from UCLA. The professor at that Sign Language class was an unorganized instructor and he did not like the way I study SL. I took ASL 1 in a different school where the professor uses the old book, but that method works well for the adult who learns a new language whereas this professor uses new textbook which works well for children who studied new language naturally. I can firmly state that because I was a private teacher in my country for both adults and children. However, he even did not let me do the first exam and just forced me to drop his class. Eventually, I did it only because I did not want to disturb the Dean and I know I never get good grade once the professor dislikes me. So my transcript got a W just because of that and I must take English to fulfill IGETC, which later I dropped after a few personal reasons for going to lecture at night. And now I have to report the second W. Of course, all of this trouble with the professor I do not think you should tell the Admission. I feel lucky because when I updated that on TAU, I did not need to explain. I am waiting for UCLA admission to review my case - the second W, but I think I will be ok because I never have W in previous semesters.

@bibihcmvn do they accept if you send it yourself? do not they want the school to send it ignorer to consider as official ?

@lilii99 As long as the envelopes were sealed, they are official transcripts. You keep it but never open it or damage the envelopes by water accidentally.

@bibihcmvn oh I see. so then I can order 2 one that school send and one for myself to pick up and post to the school at the same time too? right? just to make sure they receive it.

@lilii99 You can do 2 ways at the same time but maybe you will confuse the admission department to duplicate your transcript. I prefer to keep 1 at home after 1,2 weeks and will send it out if the Admission still not receive the one my school sent out earlier.

@bibihcmvn thank you so much fo your advice I would definitely do that. also how did you make sure that they received or not? do they update your portal or you called and asked?

@lilii99 I believe they would update because there is a status on your myUCLA related to transcripts received or not yet. If you wait for 2 weeks and do not see it, you can call.

@lilii99 @Ohm888 my daughter has sent official transcripts through fall 18 to a few colleges she had applied to because they required it a few months ago. They received them and removed the task from her to do list on the various portals. My daughter is requesting her community college to send her official transcript through fall 18 to UCLA today. There is no reason not to. Your UCLA student ID is on the acceptance letter in upper right corner. They know who you are and will add the transcript to your file. You don’t have to SIR first. If that was the case they’d say that in to do list. My daughter will SIR after the May 11 Bruin day for transfers. If you still feel nervous just clarify with admissions with a call. Good luck. It’s a big decision! ?

@sugarcane1 thanks. are you doubting between ucla and Berkeley? are you going to send it to Berkeley too? since Berkeley only requires one by July 1.

I’m considering withdrawing from a course; it won’t put me under 60 units, its not a major prep course nor a part of IGETC. Could withdrawing affect my admission? I’ve already SIR’d so this is particularly worrying lmao
