UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@sugarcane1 you’re supposed to SIR first. You can’t wait until May 11? That’s such an imposition? This crowd just keeps making up its own rules. SIR and then send. If I were admissions I would be rescinding all these people who violate the rules, just doing whatever they want and giving admissions more work to do. Be considerate of the admissions office — and for the rest of you, if nothing else, be considerate of the process and the overwhelmed admissions offices. SIR, then send. I’ve never seen anything like what this year’s group is doing in terms of not following provisionals, et cetera. It’s just never happened before, and even a bit depressing.

the only thing makes me worried is that ucla is the only one ants the transcript by June 1, I’m not worried for Berkeley since they want it by July 1. and if I decide my final decision by may 12 then there is not that much time left. my school said it takes 2-3 weeks. what is your suggestion? @Ohm888

What they want are transcripts leaving out final spring term. You send final spring afterward. My suggestion? SIR.

If you are waiting on an appeal or waitlist opening the UCs say to still SIR elsewhere. I guess I don’t understand the inability to SIR, even if you’re still awaiting an answer that likely will not come until after the SIR deadline.

Also, despite horror stories to the contrary, the UCs are not ogres and realize you’re at the mercy of the CCC timeline. Simply email UCLA and send unofficial and note that the CCC might be late on their end. But AGAIN , they’re asking only for transcripts through fall 2018 by June 1. You don’t need to wait for any spring grades.

@Ohm888 I think the main reason people do not SIR because each SIR costs $250.

no its because I don’t know either Berkley or ucla I want to go and I can not decide before may 11 next week is Berkley open house and the week after is ucla open house. I can not SIR for both definitely! @bibihcmvn

@Ohm888 I know I already have all grades until fall 2018 but my question is that I am not sure if I wan to go to ucla or ucB until I visit both campuses. which is by may 11.
if I chose ucla then they need my transcript to received by June 1 as well. so my question is that: in order to make sure and be safe can I send my transcript first ( to not pass the deadline) and then decide to SIR where after May 11?

@lilii99 You can SIR for two. Then you can cancel/withdraw. You just lose the deposit.

on the UC page said do not SIR to more than one. so I don’t risk doing that for sure

@paulrudd best thing to do is talk to admissions before dropping, if that’s a possibility. most likely they won’t care but better safe than sorry.

@lilii99 Here you are http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/q-and-a/sir-deposit/index.html

@lilii99 my daughter was rejected at Berkeley. But she is deciding between UCLA and UC Santa Cruz where she was awarded the Regents Scholarship. She ordered her transcript through Fall 18 today to be sent to UCLA. And like you she is not sure she will ultimately choose them but to make the June 1st deadline went ahead and sent it. No harm. No need to SIR first. She will go to the Bruin day on May 11th then choose to SIR there or Santa Cruz. Go ahead and send your transcript. There is no harm in doing so and it doesn’t mean you are committing. It doesn’t mean anything. Its just something they require. Don’t worry about it and just send it. If your school takes 2-3 weeks to send I wouldn’t risk that. My daughters school sends it electronically and it takes a week according to their website. But she will watch on her UCLA portal to be sure it arrives and if not has time to send again. Doesn’t want to take chances.

@uclaletmeinpls thanks!

did anyone get their acceptance letter in the mail yet?

So wen can submit our transcripts before we SIR?

Denying my acceptance in favor of UC Merced. Hope somebody here is able to get off the waitlist!

@BBoy99 what made you chose Merced over ucla?

@lilii99 They offered me a better financial aid package than UCLA. Also, I don’t think doing pre-med at UCLA is the best idea. Too much competition.

So I sent in a housing app… anyone know when you get a housing offer?

@Ohm888 excuse me but my daughter is following the checklist that UCLA provides for admitted transfers. It says to send transcript through fall by June 1. So she had it sent as instructed. Another item on the list is SIR by June 1. It does not say to SIR THEN send the preliminary transcript by June 1.
And lastly your final transcript July 1. No ones trying to break rules or make unnecessary work for admissions. Where is it that you are seeing that you are supposed to SIR then send preliminary transcript. I haven’t seen that stated anywhere. If that were the case…then my daughter would have done that… Seems to me that SIRing when you are on the fence and ultimately not attending there would be the thing making tons of unnecessary work for admissions staff? Your rescinding comment seems unnecessary and rude.

@sugarcane1 they instructed you step by step. And they stated very clear “Step 1: Accept admission” before listing what you have to do then.
