Does anyone know how the waitlist process works? Do they admit people from the total not attending for the year? Or is it based off open spots at a department/major. Im just curious
The waitlist is done by the college at the university. For example, if 100 students accepted to the College of Letters and Science do not SIR, then 100 students will be offered a spot off the waitlist to that college. Although the major does play a small role, it does not impact the decisions as much.

@Bubblesparks it isn’t exactly quid pro quo. They over-extend invitations knowing that a certain % will decline the offer. Also there are the occasional appeals that go through. If they over-invite by say 35% then out of that 100 they’re working off of about 65 acceptances, so the waitlist will be based more on how many of those 65 don’t SIR (among other factors; that’s just one calculation).
Earlier this thread, some users said that UCLA under enrolled this year, possibly in an effort to get more people off the waitlist. Has anyone heard anything else about that? Any idea of the chances of a CoE applicant getting off the waitlist?
Update: Eh it’s not much but I talked to the admissions officer and they said they are going to start releasing decisions at the beginning of June till the beginning of July.

Are we guaranteed 1 year of housing if we are admitted off the waitlist? I couldn’t seem to find anything about it online.
Up to what I know, you are not guaranteed housing
Here is what I found online in the FAQ:
"Yes, if you are admitted prior to June 15 and apply on time: you will have 15 days from the date on your admit letter to submit a housing application.
If you are admitted after June 15, housing cannot be guaranteed; however, housing will work with you to offer spaces on a first-come, first-served basis."

@ishitak Seriously? the waitlist form deadline just closed aren’t we supposed to get results by June/July. No offense but I honestly don’t think that sounds right. But if I’m wrong then congrats! Sorry if i sound skeptical but I’ve just always heard waitlist results being later than normal
@surefineitsok I get your concern, I was surprised myself. I got an email that the decision has been updated and then I checked. I also called UCLA a few days ago and asked when the results will be out and they told me at the beginning of June. So when I got the email this morning I was surprised as well as I wasn’t expecting anything before June. I wish I could show u proof but I dont think we can post pictures here. But yes definitely not lying.
