UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

omgeee hmu on ig so we can talk about it!!!

I was admitted, but kind of anxious because I couldn’t fit a recommended course in my schedule that I had put as a planned course when doing my TAU. On both assist and the UCLA site/booklet, it was clearly stated as a recommended/suggested course for personal gain/experience and not required. They even mentioned that the credits aren’t guaranteed to transfer. When I received the admission letter, I immediately sent the academic update, and I recently realized my portal changed.

The acceptance letter on the decisions page was replaced by:

“We received your recent communication regarding changes to your academic information and are currently reviewing your record. Upon completion, we will contact you to inform you of any status changes.”

It’s been like this since Friday. How long do they usually take? What are the chances I’m actually going to get rescinded?

Hey guys has anyone heard back from the transfer alumni scholarship yet?

@subwooferlullaby hi! so i didn’t receive a specific email about notifications, but there are multiple waves, and the first wave was chosen last week! you can see if you were awarded through ur my.ucla.edu portal, and you’ll see it on ur provisional financial award under the scholarships section titled “alumni scholarship”!

I think they’re waiting to send out all of the waves in order to “officially” notify everyone! hope that helps lol. also i had previous contact with the coordinator and got that info from him.

resolved

@bobbuilderbbb
Did your status change? Can you give me more info on that? I’m in the same situation.

Resolved… but in which direction?

Favorable to UCLA or favorable to you?

Does anyone know if admission can be revoked if you receive a C in a major course? Bombed one test and it absolutely killed my grade :cold_sweat: rip my acceptances. So bummed because I am usually on top of it but lost all motivation at the start of quarantine and thought I could make it up with my recent exam only to get a B on that. I don’t even have any extenuating circumstances. Will the UCs be more forgiving because of the current situation? It is now past my school’s drop deadline and the highest grade I could receive is a C in the class. Unfortunately, my physics professor has not been understanding of making any exceptions.

@collegeboundx , you should have no problem. Everything I’m reading says there is great latitude with this semester due to the transition to online learning and all the other disruptions. Can you switch to pass/no pass? It is my understanding that while that is usually not permitted for required classes (in the major) it is being permitted now.

Here’s one link with that answer (scroll toward the end), and I know there are official statements out there from the schools themselves.

Of course, as always, talk to admissions for a definitive answer.

@“jesse’sgirl” Thank you. I am hoping there will be some leniency this semester as well. I can still put in a written request for an EW and a P/NP, but the issue with withdrawing is that it is a major course requirement and a series course, so I risk having to repeat the entire series once I transfer in addition to risking my admission being revoked. The issue with P/NP is that it is a course that I will need when I apply to med school/grad school, and although I am reading that grad schools may overlook this semester, I do not know how much truth there is to that or if it applies to every grad school. Also, this class does not regularly have a P/NP option so I am not sure that I am even able to do that. At this point, it looks like I may have to do an EW and retake the series or take the C. I’m not really sure which is better, but I will talk to a counselor about trying to opt for P/NP and seeing how well the courses articulate in the chance that after an EW I will only have to repeat the single course rather than all 3.

@polyglot5
Hii! I got into neuroscience too. Would you add me to the group chat, please!

@collegeboundx Omg I’m struggling with physics! I am also worried about getting rescinded. I was taking it cause I thought I was going to CSUN, but I end up getting admitted to UCLA (UCLA doesn’t need physics for Pre-Statistics…)

I asked someone on this thread about pass/no passing physics:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ask-dean-topics/903319-when-do-colleges-rescind-acceptances-p94.html

I’m scared to pass/no pass because although it is not needed for my major, there is a chance i might end up needing to go to grad school. I may end up taking it as letter grade not sure though

I decided to take two classes on a pass/no pass basis this semester. Do we have to let them know that we are taking pass/no pass or will they just see it when we send transcripts in July?

They’ll just see it. If it’s a major req you might want to email them and give them a heads up.

Hey Ohm I had a question and was wondering if you could help me out. I got admitted for pre-soc at UCLA and was wondering if I could switch to cognitive science? I know I would have to do some pre reqs. But I’m more wondering as a transfer student that is recently accepted will the school allow me to switch over? I saw in another discussion you spoke to someone about it but that thread is closed now. If anyone else knows the answer feel free to chime in!

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone else was having the same issue as me. I cannot access my UCLA email. Whenever I log in to myUCLA and hit the “WebMail” link it just brings me to a google page and says “invalid email.” Not sure what to make of this :confused:

Regents are out! I did not get it :frowning:

@Bubonica did they email you?? I haven’t received an email??? EEK

Thank you very much for participating in the UCLA Regents Scholarship competition. I am sorry to inform you that the Faculty Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes, was not able to nominate you for the UCLA Regents Scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The vast array of impressive academic profiles made it extremely difficult for the Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes to choose the Regents Scholars for the 2020-2021 academic year. Although each and every one of the students competing for this scholarship has stellar academic portfolios, only a select few were chosen to receive the Regents Scholarship. Please be assured that your application received our very close attention and thoughtful consideration.

I wish you great success in your future academic endeavors. I am confident that you will continue to excel and contribute greatly within your academic environment, either at UCLA or at the institution of your choice.

Has anyone received an email about being selected for regents?
