Hi all,

I was admitted the UCLA Film School in April and I was

Sorry, I accidentally submitted last time. Here is the question in full:

Hi all,

I was admitted the UCLA Film School in April. However, in the months that have followed I have been getting increasingly nervous about transfer credits. UCLA Film School has very specific and strict requirements that require that all film school applicants have their GE courses completed by the time they are admitted. What I don’t understand is whether or not my admission may still be in jeopardy, even though I have been extended (and accepted) an offer of admission. My understanding is that UCLA actually does not review an applicant’s previously completed coursework for transferability until AFTER he/she has been admitted AND submitted their SIR (statement of intent to register). How can my offer of my admission be valid if they haven’t even figured out if I have enough transferable credits to meet the film school’s requirements?

If I have this right this process seems incredibly backward. My summer orientation session is not until August; does this mean I won’t find out if I have sufficient transferable credits to attend the film school until August? Is there a possibility that I will get completely screwed over at the last minute and have my admission revoked? I have been calling and emailing both UCLA undergrad admissions as well as the School of Theater, Film and Television for weeks and for the life of me I cannot get anyone to give me a straight answer about any of this. The film school tells me I need to talk to undergrad admissions because they’re the ones who decide what coursework is transferable, but undergrad admissions tells me I need to talk to my counselor at TFT because I was admitted to their program and they have their own specific requirements.

FYI: For the last year I have been on a leave of absence from my last college (a private 4-year liberal arts college in Oregon) and so do not have any coursework pending; all of my official documentation (AP scores, transcripts, etc.) has been received by UCLA.

First off, congratulations. The UCLA film school is exceptionally competitive. Only fifteen transfer students are selected to go there every year, so you must be pretty happy.

I also was accepted, and I’m a pretty anxious guy, so I can help you out I think.

While your transcripts are not given a FINAL review until after you submit a SIR, believe me, they took a good hard look at the information you provided on your application before you went in for that interview. They had many hundreds of applicants and they spent a good amount of time settling on you. So unless you lied in your initial application, they have a good idea of what you have been doing.

Since you have been admitted, you should try to speak with the TFT councilor. They will be able to answer all your questions. If you need to finish a few more classes at UCLA, I’m sure that’d be ok. I personally am going to have to finish up a Chinese 2 class at UCLA (which I’m not thrilled about).

If you were admitted, you were admitted. I’ll see you in Fall, whomever you are, or possibly at orientation. Congrats on being one of the 15!

Thanks so much for your answer, Dave! And yes, I’m so excited. Looking forward to meeting you in person soon.

Hello Eunjo0!

I am applying to UCLA film school too. How is it so far? Congrats on getting in!

I am a transfer student to UCLA film and television. Were you guys transfers as well? Or were you already at UCLA?

Any advice you guys have would be great. I am posting this so that I can click instant email notification. I don’t know whether they would notify me of when I get a response when I just click quick reply. Thanks!
