UCLA Film School

Does anyone know how hard the UCLA film school is, to get in? I have pretty good grades and a lot of extracurricular. Also does being accepted into the film school mean that your accepted into UCLA?

I went to a seminar about the undergraduate film program there, and they said that they accepted 20 of about 3000 applicants to the program.

Actually it may have been out of 1500 applicants. Either way, it’s super competitive

I’m a third-year film major at UCLA. I can tell you that every year, they only accept about 15 transfer students and about 15 freshmen students. The counselor of the film program told us it’s because UCLA TFT likes to keep their class sizes pretty small. Even though the applicant pool grows every year, 15 students is a number the department likes to hold onto.

Getting accepted in UCLA TFT is much more than having a good GPA and impressive extracurriculars. Make sure you have stellar supplements. I was told from the former co-chair of the Screenwriting Dept at UCLA that it’s the supplements, especially the creative writing sample, that matter the most.

Being accepted in the film school does mean you’re accepted in UCLA. The film school is a department that is within the university.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

I went to their open house a few months ago and all of what was said above is correct.

I hear they’re a little more lenient on the grades aspect of the application and focus more on “how good of a storyteller” the applicant is. That mean you need to slay your supplementals.

And make sure to format them correctly!
