Just wondering if it’s okay to apply for housing now, even though I have not submitted my SIR.

no, you have to submit your SIR first then you can submit housing.

Hah thanks! Hey perchance, do you have some sort of familiarity with the buildings at UCLA? which dorms are well-off and which ones should be avoided?

from someone on this board, i discovered that transfer students have to stay at Delta Terrace.

it doesn’t have communal bathrooms, that’s the one bonus.

we won’t be staying in the halls or the vistas.

that’s the UCLA housing map, as titled. you can look at the floor plan of each building. but like i said, we’ll be staying in Delta Terrace, all transfer students. Most likely, at least.

Also guys will be placed to two guys per room, whereas girls will be stuck with 3 per room. delta terrace has a dining hall, study room and laundry facility. that’s pretty much all i know about it. but it is in sunset village, apparently party central as far as UCLA goes… haha.

i cant find the housing…

?? you mean the map?

if you mean “Delta Terrace,” click “Sunset Village.” it is located within sunset village.

Hey how far is Delta Terrace from UCLA’s library? For how long is UCLA’s library open during the day?

Are we allowed to pick our roomies, or is this usually done through some type of raffle?

Correct me if i’m wrong, you mean to tell me that ~ all transfer students, regardless of their major, will stay at Delta Terrace?

Yup.

The dorms are all in one place, regardless of major, everyone lives together. There is a campus shuttle bus that can take you to south campus (for EE, ME, science majors, etc) and to north campus (english, language, philosophy majors, etc) from Hedrick Hall (not that far of a walk from Delta Terrace).

I know of only one library at UCLA, Young Research library, and it is quite some ways from the dorms. It is Northeast, whereas dorms are Northwest. To get anywhere, you either need a long head start, the campus shuttle system or a bike. I can’t imagine there being much parking for those who wish to drive to class.

The roommates are done with a few really general survey questions. “Do you smoke? Do you want a roommate who smokes?” and “how neat are you?” things of that nature. The system pairs you up with roommates and you’re stuck with that.

also, if you have their ucla id number or something, you can fill that out and it will pair up with whom you would like as a roomie.

also, are the housing system first come first serve basis?

Also… i’ve talked to my friend who went to ucla as a freshmen and she said that she had 2 transfers in her building. so i think that not all transfers only are allowed to stay at delta terrace

[AHL Productions](http://ahlproductions.blogspot.com)

I don’t buy that all of the transfers are going to be in Delta Vista, but Delta Vista may consist solely of transfers.

If you look here: [Sunset Village](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site/UCLA/menuitem.789d0eb6c76e7ef0d66b02ddf848344a/?vgnextoid=ef20064a9a7d1010VgnVCM1000008f8443a4RCRD) the entire Sunset Village houses <1500 students and here (UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students, Fall 2007) it says that there were >5000 admits last fall. Here (link to a powerpoint file) http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/resources/materials/CC_2007/CC07_UCLA_TR_FINAL.ppt it says that they’ve historically had a >60% enrollment rate of accepted transfers.

So low balling it to 60% and 5000 admits, we still have more than double the capacity of the entire sunset village, nevermind that Delta Terrace is only a fraction (1/3?) of it. So yeah. Sorry if this came out as antagonistic. I’m running short on sleep

they do their best to put everyone at delta terrace. but there are transfer students scattered across de neve and the other newer buildings.

roommates must mutually request each other.

i am not sure if the housing is first come first serve. my application was sent a few days ago but it hasn’t gone through or anything. i think more people need to submit SIR’s to UCLA and apply for housing. i know quite a few transfer students that will be getting their own place.

i’ll let you guys know when it goes through.

If you’re stuck with roommates, for how long does that usually last? Over the course of a quarter, over the course of a year, or over the course of your stay there at the university?

I also see somewhere in your post that you’re overruling any idea of owning a car while at UCLA. How much of this affects a student’s ability to travel around town on weekends?

I was told recently in a chat that continuing students will begin registering for the fall quarter in approximately 2 weeks. How will this affect our ability to get into the classes we need? Obviously, unlike the local CC, I would assume they have more than enough sections of one particular course, but no one really wants to get stuck with a professor that’s uber-hard, or one that’s difficult to understand.

There is a comprehensive bus and subway system in the area. Also, make friends with someone who owns a car ;)

I know at UCSC and UCSD you are stuck with your roommates all year. But I honestly have no idea about that, if anyone can report on that, it would be awesome.

Also the UCLA rep I spoke to told me that transfer students all stay in one dorm together. Obviously, this is mathematically impossible, despite the fact that i’ll be stuck in a crowded room with two other girls (the joy). But I would rather be with other transfer students than a bunch of freshmen that are discovering their college freedom.

For those of you who have been on tours at UCLA: did you get the opportunity to check out the dorms?

Are microwaves allowed in dorm rooms, or are they provided? Can we bring those small refrigerators from home (the 70$ ones), how spacious are the rooms? Is it super-difficult to study inside the dorm room as opposed to finding a quiet area somewhere on the field where one can get some alone time?

Is there a barrier between one roommate and the other? Do roomies sleep on bunkbeds?

wait are incoming transfers guaranteed on-campus housing, or can they be pushed into off-campus UCLA owned apartments?? F Living off campus!

uh… so there’s a stickied housing thread in the ucla subforum… maybe it should be read

Agreed xleper. I’d rather live with transfers and visit freshmen on occasion than the other way around.

edit: don’t we have guaranteed housing for one year?

oh wow, thanks poppin!

yeah, some people didn’t get sunset village.

i applied for double, let’s see if it works.

yeah, we do. also according to the past info, we’re stuck in that housing situation all year. stuck or placed? i guess it depends on whether or not we like it.

Oh shoot! so the earlier you apply for housing the better?

Xleper: did you already submit your SIR?

Can somebody please rank the buildings from most endearing to least inviting. 1) Being the most presentable in your opinion
