Is there a download limit ?

i hit download speeds of ~8MB/sec when i downloaded from private host space. internet was amazing…especially compared to the internet you get when you move off campus.

side-note: YAY 1K POSTS

Not sure you went through 10+ pages of threads to find this thread but I guess it still has some use for people.

Speeds will vary depending on where you are downloading from and how many people use the network but there aren’t any bandwidth caps per week like Berkeley.

lol i was googling internet speeds, and then added ucla to the search and found this…didn’t realize it 4/20 was the last post

Nice no bandwidth cap!
but I guess we’ll be warned not to download copyright material right :(

yah. easier to detect ucla IPs. got caught by ESA for downloading starcraft. shut up.

what did u use to download? torrents?
cuz do they know if ur downloadin stuff thru mirc?..like will u be warned if u use mirc?
…because im pretty sure torrents will get u warned, since much easier to detect

What about storage sites like Megaupload?
I know torrents are basically out of question (especially if you download the popular stuff).

megaupload, mirc is harder.

starcraft is the **** bro…i still play LOL

Yea, don’t download torrents, it basically just give them a reason to take your internet away (unless you are super good at being stealthy and masking your IP Address). If you want to download stuff, download at your home or other public places (L.A. public library, some restaurants, etc).

Exactly the thread i was looking for …

What about storage sites like Rapidshare, megaupload and all. Would they monitor those too?

If not, then I can easily ask someone over here in my country to upload some movies and transfer … Possible !!!

No they don’t monitor those.

Good Good :D

stuff at rendevous is pretty good. they open late. (forgot how late)

Typically, companies like NBC or CBS will find your IP address downloading a torrent that is sharing media belonging to them. They will notify UCLA, and UCLA will take the usual actions.

Use private torrents or private file hosting sites (rapidshare, megaupload, etc.), and you’ll be perfectly fine.

How fast is the internet in De Neve plaza. Also, do they have wireless in dorms?

I’d suggest you not to download pirated stuff from internet using UCLA’s network.

They’ll find you if they want to.
