Hey,guys!
I am international and was fortunate to receive PhD offers with financial support from these schools (UCLA,Northwestren,UChicago)
Major
Northwestern:MSE
UCLA:PHYS
UChicago:PHYS
My interest shifts to engineering a little.I don’t care the weather too much. The only thing I can do as an international student is to refer to USNEWS rankings. But how do you rank these schools? I want to know your thoughts and any inside information will be helpful!
I really appreciate your help!

You say you may not care about the weather, but when you get into schools like these, sometimes that’s what it comes down to. Anyone you ask this question will say “you can’t really go wrong with any of them,” and you can’t. They are all outstanding instututions. Vist all of them and go with whichever one you like the most or get the best vibes from…

I have heard once you visit UCLA you never come back. Also how much financial support you get from each comes into play, but it seems like you’re pretty set.

The area around UCLA beats all those other places by a wide margin.

Also, how important is it for you to be in a community with a lot of other Asians? Chicago is not as diversified as you would think. UCLA is pretty much half Asian and half white (or so it seems).

Good luck in your decision. Those are all great schools!!

Congrats! Put the US News ranking aside. You should pick the professors (or your future bosses) that interest you the most. Visit the departments if you may (after all, just two cities).

Chicago is not particularly Asian, but the UChicago campus is far more so. It’s also a hop, skip, and jump from Chinatown.

Regardless, if your interests shift to Eng, I would look closely at Northwestern. You want to be in the program that you’re the most passionate about.
