You’re misinformed. Regents pays 100% after subtracting the family contribution. When I said people with financial need, I meant people with zero or little family contribution.
There is no question Regents is financially more attractive than Chancellor’s. Is it more prestigious? You have to decide.
Also, UCSD Regents has three more perks that Chancellor’s doesn’t have: choice of college, Regents Research Initiative for freshmen and extended library borrowing privilege.
Regents is merit based whereas Chancellor’s is combination of merit, financial need, and disadvantaged background. I’d assume that if a person is qualified for both Regents and Chancellor’s, he/she will be given Regents and not Chancellor’s.</p>
