UCLA Rescission

I’ll cut to the chase. I’m getting a D in my religion class, and since I’m a senior and have finished all of my required senior academic courses long ago (with excellent grades) my semester GPA will be under 3.0. Will UCLA rescind my admission? The class I’m taking is an elective but some say that it counts as an academic course rather than something as insignificant as typing or ceramics. It was also absolutely unnecessary that I took this course in the first place but I thought I’d add some variety into my life by taking it. What do you guys think my next few steps should be?

I’d say try to raise it up… and that you should tell UCLA as soon as possible. There’s no point in trying to ask people if you’ll get rescinded.

I am sorry to hear of your situation, but there may be reason to be worried. The UC schools revoke hundreds of students each year. My guess, and mind you this is only a guess, is that if you’ve satisfied the A-G requirements without this class then you’ll be ok.

But what you should be doing is contacting the adcoms to see where you stand instead of waiting until August when they review your final transcript. BTW the conditions of admission you accepted told you to promptly notify them of any grade below a C. Hopefully in light of your overall record they’ll be able to tell you it won’t matter. If it does matter then they’ll probably ask to you send in a letter of explanation, and they have considerable leeway in deciding what to do. As it says on the UC website

If you just sit around and worry, any chance of remedial action (should it be needed) will be lost by the time they review your transcript this summer. Do it today!!

If you need to write a letter of explanation then you need to accept responsibility instead of trying to shift the blame. In the adult world people are willing to forgive, but the quid pro quo is accepting responsibility and explaining why it won’t happen again. Some people never get this; at work they’re always trying to shift the blame when things go wrong to someone else. And they wonder why they never seem to get promoted.

Let us know how it turns out; I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

No, it’s fine.

My brother goes to UCLA (Sophomore next year) and he got a C- in a spanish class because the teacher wanted him to graduate and know he just slacked.

They’ll know you just got senioritis or something and they won’t really care; especially if you’ve done well throughout your high school career leading up to this point.

My brother even called the admission committee and they said it’s fine, If you get one D or so it’s completely fine.

You should call and report it though.
